W. N. BRYERS GARMENT HOLDER Original Filed April 24 1925 I I E M/Jzm 1913mm.
INVENTOR ATTORN EY WITNESS:
Patented Oct. 5, 1926.
PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM N. BRYERS, OF MOMILLAN', MICHIGAN.
GARMENT HOLDER.
Application filed April 24, 1925, Serial No'. 25,668. Renewed July 28, 1926.
My invention relates to garment holders and its principal object is to provide a device for holding a hat, gloves and coat in an out-of-the way part of an automobile or other vehicle.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a clamp for engagement with a hat and whose extremities are constructed to support a coat at one end and a pair of gloves at the other end.
With the preceding and other objects and advantages in mind, the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, construction and arrangement of parts and operations to be hereinafter specifically referred to, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is an elevation of the device associated with an automobile, parts of the automobile being broken away.
Figure 2 is an elevation of the device, and
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional View of the same.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein corresponding characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 designates a base plate which may be made of wood, light metal or any other desirable material. The base plate 5 is provided with openings 6 through which fastenings are adapted to extend to hold the device to one of the side walls or any desirable part of the automobile, as shown in Figure 1.
The device further includes a length of wire bent to provide parallel arms 10 terminat-ing in a pair of U-shaped extensions 11 at its lower end and an intermediate arch 12 which extends outwardly and obliquely from the base as shown and is adapted to support a pair of gloves. The arms 10 are provided with lateral extensions which are pivotally supported in a pair of parallel ears 13 carried by the plate 5 adjacent its upper end. These extensions terminate in, upstanding divergent inwardly inclined arms 14 which together provide a coat hanger. These arms terminate in rounded coat engaging elements 16 which are provided by turning the arms upon themselves.
Encircling the extensions 13 are springs 20 which are secured to the base as at 21 and have their ends engaged with the arms as at 22 and normally hold the latter against the base plate 5 where the extensions 11 will engage the hat. From the disclosure it will be apparent that I have provided a simple and inexpensive device which will conveniently support a hat, pair of gloves and coat and will prevent the same from becoming accidentally lost or blown away while in travel.
\Vhile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, I desire to have it understood that such changes may be made in the form, construction, arrangement of parts and operation as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
lVhat is claimed is A garment support of the character de scribed comprising a base plate having an opening therein for receiving a supporting means therefor, a substantially U-shaped clamp having its lower end provided with U-shaped extensions arranged in contacting engagement with the lower portion of the plate and adapted to receive a hat, an arched portion between the extensions adapted to serve as a rest for a pair of gloves, lateral extensions formed upon the upper ends of said arms, parallel ears projecting from the base plate and pivotally receiving the lateral extensions, and a pair of upstanding inward 1y inclined arms carried by the lateral extensions and having their upper ends bent upon themselves, and coil springs engaging the lateral extensions inward of the parallel ears and normally holding said extensions against the base plate for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
WILLIAM N. BRYERS.
