Description
Patented Aug. 17, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORG WESENBERG, OF ELBERCEELD, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO WINTHRO]? CHEMI- CAL COMPANY, INC., OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
I PROCESS FOR DISINFECTING HIDES, FELLS, SKINS, HAIRS, CATGUT, ETC.
No Drawing.
The disinfection of fell s, hides, skins,
hairs, catgut, etc., is very difficult because heat, steam, alkal-ies and-acids, or formaldehyde act in a deleterious manner upon the 5 organic products.
I have found that halogenated amides, e. g. acetochloroamide, para-toluenesulfonchloroamide (sodium salt) or mixtures of para-toluenesulfonamides with calcium hy- 1 pochlorite (chloride of lime) can profitably be used for this purpose. The disinfecting power of these ingredients is very strong, they penetrate well into the materials and are entirely harmless to them.
In order to illustrate my new process more fully, the following example is given 2-- EwampZe.-The dried hide of a guinea pig that died of anthrax is laid into a solution ofthe sodium salt of ara-toluenesul fonchloroamide (1:300). fter 10 hours the spores are killed. After tanning a good leather results.
my hand.
Application filed August 27, 1925. Serial No. 52,969.
In the same way catgut, etc. can be disinfected.
1. The herein described process for disin fecting hides, fells, skins, hairs, catgut, etc.', which comprises treating these products with a solution of halogenated amides andremoving the excess of liquid.
2. The herein described process for disinfecting hides, fells, skins, hairs, catgut, etc., which comprises treating these products with a mixture of chloride of lime and a sulfonamide and removing the excess of 35 li uid.
3. The process for disinfecting hides, fells, skins, hairs, catgut, etc., which comprises treating these products with a solution of a sodium salt of para-toluenesulfonchloroamide. 40
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set GEORG WESEN BERG.
