Y. i It has 'already beenproposedlito devise fastening means, more particularly` appli.-

In thesev arrangements," `the operation tov .opening the locking bar, to interrupt the mechanical connectionexisting between the-- l bolt and the' staple was effected'by a earnA rigidly secured on the commonaXis of theV inner and outer .operating handles; this cam Was therefore mounted on themovable part of the door, Which carried the cylindro-conical bolt and engaged With aubell crank leverV which was pivoted on the platek of the staple *and permitted. to actuate the f locking'bar in the direction 'of its opening. v The present invention has for its object f Vimprovements in these fastening means for the purpose vof permitting:
' (a) The arrangement of the two .operating handles or members on the staple carrying the locking bar and :on thev:movable` lpanel of the door. l,
Y (t) The establishment oi" the mechanical movement transmitting connections joining`r each of the handles ofthe locking ,bar so as to allow the operation of theinner lian-VV dle Without. acting on the outer handle,
the outer'handle utilizing, fo;1 that purpose,
A l theirV innerv handle for producing the mechanical connection which belongsto the dis- Y placement Aof the said locking' bar. l
As indicated in the foregoing, the post of the Wooden transom of ythe door is provided with the cylindro-c-onica-l bolt 1. This bolt is rigid with an angle' iron 2 extending from` A a plate 3 permitting the bolts tobe secured in position. The vconical part of thebolt has a bevel 4. The door leaf panel receives 'f the c staple (Fig. 1). The latter. is conv stituted by ablock 5 rigid withV a securing j kguide block`v 11.

The latter 'enters inthe lbore 7 of the staple 5, pushes back, through 'its bevelled part 4, the locking .bar 9, thus compressing the spring 12.
ss At the end of the movement, thelocking bar 9, under the action of'its spring 12, yenters Y, thecorresponding hole of the bolt land thus if' locks with the AstapleV 5. For opening the door:
The latter therefore pushesy back the locky Y ing bar 9 ,by vcompressing the spring 12. In vthe accompanying dravving and. by'A 2. Or the inneriliandle is acted upon, thus KVangularly moving the pivoting lever 19 and Ythe locking bar 9.. In this case, the outer.

K The fastening device ca providing an ,abutment in the fpath of `the 'noses of the'cam to permit-only a limited 'ro-` tationfof theV cam.V For this purpose arod- 20, adapted to be movedinto-the pathlof` the noses of cam 16,r and operable from the be locked by That claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. n a door-latch for automobiles and the like, a plate adapted to be secured to a doorpost, a bolt fixed to said plate, a second plate adapted to be secured to a door and provided with a socket to receive' the bolt when the door iQ closed, apertures Vin the socket and bolt adapted to align with each other when the door is Closed", a locking pin occupying the aperture n the socket and arranged to enter the aperture in the bolt when the door is closed7 a spring fori moving thelocking pin toward said socket, a pivotally mounted lever engaging said locking pin and adapted to he actuated from the inner side of the door for moving the locking pin away from the bore of the socket to release' the bolt, a shaft extending through the second plate 'to be actu-aten from the exterior of the door,
an abutn'ient on said lever, and a cam fixed to said shaft and adapted to engage the abutment to permit the operator to actuate the locking pinjfrorn the exterior of the door.
2. A door-latch as claimed in claim l in which the locking pinY has a socket at one end. a housing on the second plate in Which the loclng pin socket is sldably mounted, said Spring being arranged in' the housing andthe last mentioned socket.
3. A door-latch as claimed in claim l including means for locking the cam against rotation by the exterior handle WhileV permitting the locking pin to be actuated from the interio;n by manipulation of'saidlever.
In testimony' whereof I have signedmy name to this speciication.
