This invention relates to bearings and is particularly applicable in bearings for gyratory crushers of the type d sclosed and broadly claimed in an application of R. C. Newhouse, S. N. 434,493, filed Jan. 3, 1921, of which this application is a division.
In gyratory crushers as hitherto constructed and particularly those in which a comparatively short shaftds desired, that is, in which the distance between the eccentrio and the crusher head is not great, there is not much room in the bottom shell.- One ofthe reasons for this is that the diaphragm located in the bottom shell takes u a good deal of a space at at least one side t ereof so that if the crusher shaft-is to be short the eccentric bearing. thereof must be designed so as not to interfere with the diaphragm. In large Crushers it is very desirable that the eccentric hearing be artificially cooled;
It is one of the objects of this invention to provide a construction whereby this may be accomplished, particularly in crushers of the type set forth.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a simple and efficient bearing construction in which a cooling medium may be circulated- Other objects will appear appear fromthe specification and the aceompanying drawings forming a part there I 'of and showing one embodiment of said inhereinafter as a description of the invention proceeds.
The 'novel features of this invention will vention, and all these novel features are intended to be pointed out in the claims.

The outer bearing surface of the eccentric 6 is surrounded by a sleeve 9 which is mounted and held in a bearing support 10, the parts'9 and 10 forming a bearing member. The bearing support 10 is in turn supported by a plurality of struts one of which, 11, appears in the drawing. The support 10 is referably formed with a depression 12 facing the outer surface of the sleeve 9. rovided which divides the space between t e sleeve 9 and support 10 formed by the depression 12, into an upper chamber 20 and a lower chamber '21. A plurality of baflies 14 extendin ,in axial planes from the support 10 towar the sleeve 9 are' also provided. The bafiies 14 stop short of the sleeve 9 so as to leave passages between the ends of these bafies andsaid sleeve. A bafile 15 similar to baflies 14 but completely bridging the space between support 10 and sleeve 9 is also provided. The baflie 13 is here shown as provided with a hole 16 near the bafiie 15. An inlet pipe 17 communicates with chamber20 on the side of baiiie 15'opposite to that of hole 16.v An
outlet pipe 18 cpmmunicates with chamber 21 on the same s1de of the baflie 15. y A cooling medium such'as water is preferably introduced into pipe 17 and the water then passes around sleeve 9 in chamber 20. in a clockwise direction, being forced near to the sleeve by baflles 14. The water then passes down through hole 16 into chamber 21 in which it flows in'a counter clockwiw direction and then passes out of pi e 18.
It should be understood that it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact details of construction herein shown and described for various modifications may'occur shaft on the other side of said diaphragm,
an outer bearing member for said eccentric to secure by Y having a portion extending toward said head beyond the general plane of said diaphragm, and means for circulating a cooling medium in said bearing member.
2. A crusher comprising a diaphragm, a crusher shaft, an eccentric'associated with said shaft, an outer bearing member for said eccentric, having a portion above the general plane of said diaphragm, said member including a substantially cylindrical sleeve surrounding said eccentric, and a member, provided with an internal depression, fitted over said sleeve whereby a passage is provided for the circulation of a cooling medium in said bearing member.
3. A crusher comprising a bottom shell, a crusher shaft, an eccentric associated with said shaft, an outer bearing for said eccentric, a support member for said bearing associated with said shellwhereby the thrust from said eccentric is transmitted ,to said shell, said support member having an annular recess surrounding said bearing, and a baflle forming part of said support member and dividing said recess into an upper and lower chamber.

A crusher comprising a crusher shaft, an eccentric associated with said shaft. an outer bearing member for said eccentric, said member including a substantially cylindrical sleeve surrounding said eccentric, a support member provided with an internal depression, over said sleeve, a bafile having an opening, said bafile dividing said depression into an upper and lower chamber whereby two passages around said sleeve are provided for the circulation of a cooling medium.
5. A crusher comprising a crusher shaft, an eccentric associated with said shaft, an outer bearing member for said eccentric,
said member including a substantially cylindrical sleeve surrounding said eccentric, a support member provided with an internal depression, over said sleeve, a ballle having an opening, said baliie dividin said depression into anupper and lower chamber and a plurality of baflles extending in axial lanes from said support member toward said sleeve, one of said baffles completely bridgin the space between said support member and said sleeve.

A crusher comprising a crusher shaft, an eccentric associated with said shaft an outer bearing member for said eccentric, said member including a substantially cylindrical sleeve surrounding said eccentric, a support member provided with an internal depression, over said sleeve, a bafile having an opening, said bafiie dividing said depression into an upper and lower chamber, a plurality of baflles extending in axial planes from said support member toward said sleeve, one of said baflles completely bridging the space between said support member and said sleeve, an inlet and outlet pipe connected respectively to said chambers near one side of said last named baffle. 7. A crusher comprising a bottom shell of the type having a diaphragm providing two discharge paths leading respectively to two adjacent discharge openings in said shell, a crusher shaft, an eccentric associated with said shaft, an outer bearing for said eccentric, and a water jacket for said bearing displosled within the confines of said bottom s 1e 1.
