CLARENCE E. ROGERS, OF VfI-IITTIER, NORTH CAROLINA.
LINK.
Application filed April 14, 1924'.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in links, and more particularly to links of the open type.
One of the important objects of the present invention is to provide an open link oi the above mentioned character, which is ct such aconstruction as to enable the same to be readily and easily actuated whenever it is desired to open the same.
A further object is to provide a link of the above mentioned character, which will serve as an effectual and positive look when the same is in use.
A still further object is to provide a link of the above mentioned character which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong; and durable and furthern'iore adapted for the purposes for which it is designated.
Other objects and advz-intae'es or this invention Will become apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same:
The figure represents a perspective view of my improved open link showing the san'ie in an open position.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral. 1 designates the link body which is "formed of any suitable material, the same being; substantially rectangular in cross section. One end of the link body 1 terminates into the :apering hook portion 2, while the opposite end is slightly curved urnvardly as shown at 3 and terminates in the upwardly extending arm 4 which is disposed at substantially right angles to the link body 1 in the man ner clearly illustrated.
Cooperating with the link body 1 is a coinplementary member 5 which has one end thereol provided with an eye portion 6 whereby means is provided for pivotally supporting the complementary member 5 on the upper end of the arm in the manner clearly shown at 7 in the drawing. The opposite end ot the member 5 terminates in the tapering hook portion 8 which cooperates with the hook portion 2 and is adapted to Serial No. 706,523.
overlap the same when the hook portions abut each other so as to provide a completed link which may be used for any desired purpose.
The provision oi a link of the above mentioned character. enables the same to be readily opened by swinging the complementary member 5 on the pivot provided on the'upper end of the arm at so that the hook portion 8 of the complementary member 5 will be brought out oi engagement with the hook portion 2 of the link body 1. When the hook portions are in overlapping engagement, the link will serve as an effectual and positive lock and will be strong and durable. I
A device of this character may be manufactured at a very low cost and the simplicity of the same enables the parts to be read ily disconnected whenever desired.
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is An open link con'u'n'ising a body having a straightintermediate portion and arcuately curved end portions the are of curvature of one end portion being of greater magnitude than the arc of curvature of the opposite end portion, the body being pro vided at the end of the smaller curved portion with an arm portion disposed at a right angle with relation to the straight intermediate portion, and located immediately at the end of the said curved portion, the arm being provided at its end with a stud, the outer end surface of which lies in a plane parallel with the straight intermediate portion, and which touches the edge of the larger curved portion at a pendant, and a hook member pivoted upon said stud and having a curved end portion adapted to swing into juxtaposition with relation to the larger curved end portion of the body.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature.
