Tl1e object of the present invention is to provide a. clispensing box for matolnes, toothpicks, or tl1e like, which may be aasily ar1d cheaply macle of sheet metal and which w1ll be positive in its aotion.
The inventiofl Will loe understood by reference to tl1e accompanfing drawing in which Figure 1 is a vertical section through the front and rear Walls of the clevice in its normal position;
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 showing the osition of the parts Wl1e11 the dispensing plate has been raisocl to its maximum position Figure 3 is a s1cle elevation of the clevice;
Figure 4 is a front elevation of the device ancl Figure 5 is a horizontal section on tl1e line 55, Figure l.
The device consists of a box of any sultable form ancl preferably having a wiclth approximaoely the length of the matches o1 toothpicks to loe clispensecl. It comprises a rear Wall l, a frontwall 2and side Walls 3, all of whioh may be formerl from a single piece of sheet metal, or the back may be macle separately anal united to the side anc1 front Walls by any suitable means. I prefer that the back be formecl separately for convenience iri assembling the parts. The front wall 2 is rigid ancl it preferably terminates at a substantialclistance upon the bottom of the r ear Wall 1 to enable the use of a clownwarclly slanting bottom 4, which bot-tom is pivotecl to the sicle Walls at 5, ancl has its clownwarcl ancl outwarcl movement limitecl by stops 6 which may be formed integrally with the sicle Walls 3.
I prefer that the lower encl ofthe bottom L loe turnecl outwarclly in substantially the form illustratecl in the drawing to provicle a contact fac-e for the purpose now to b'e explainecl.
Vhen the bottom memloer 4 is in its normal position as illustrated in Figi1re 1, a gap is proviclecl between its loWer end and tl1e rear Wall 1. Thi s gap is normally c'losed by the curvecl upper encl 7 of a dispensing plate T, which is pivotally conneetecl at 8 to tl1e sicle Walls 8. At its lower end dispensing plate 7 is baut upwarclly to proviole a channel a for the reception of the match or toothpick to loe dispensed in the operation of ehe device.
Wherl tl1e dispensing platze is swung upwarclly, the ohannel formed by the curving of the upper end 01 tl1e clispensing plateis brought under alle matches or toothpioks b within the box ancl one of tl1em will fall into saicl ohannel which Will be of such size as to hold a. single toothpicl; er matoh, although if it is desired to dispense two pieoes at one time, the channel can be formed aooorclingly.
It is intended tl1at the.dispensing plate 7 be swung upwardly to the full position as shown in Figu1ie 2. This Will cause* th plate to contact with the lower end of bottom member 4 which Will bodily move the units b upwarclly, ancl when the dispensing plate is droppecl the unlt-s b Will be shaken ancl, in the repeatecl operation 0f the device, any units which are 11013 properly aligned Will be brought 130 their proper position.
VVhen the dispensing plate is clropped, the match or toothpiok hold in its upper end Will fall ancl be caught in the channel a from which it may be readily removed.
In oonstruoting t-he clevioe, tl1e pivotal members 5 may be lugs iri tegral with the plate 4: am]. projected through openings formecl in the side Walls 3. Likewise tl1e pivotal members 8 may loe front integral projeotions from the side edges 0f dispensing place 7.
Hav1ng described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows l. In a match and tooth pick dispensing box, a casing, a p'1voted downwarclly slant- 111g bottom Wall for saicl casing, a dispensing plate pivotecl to said casing, the plate ha.vinQa channel in its upper end'and a Wall overhanging said channel, normally co-acting With the bottom Wall to retain the articles t-o be clispensed within the oasing, the plante adapted to be swung outwarclly so as to bring its channel in position to receive one of 'said articles, and tl1e pivotecl bottom member lying in the path of m0vement ol: the dispensing platte so as to be swungby the latter 130 ra'1se the body of articles within the casing.
2. A match ancl tooth pick dispenslng box comprising a 'Casing having a freut Wall terminating above the rear Wall and side Walls having their base portions extending at an angle from the front to the rear Wall, a. bottom member pivoted at its top, a stop device whereby movement of the bottom member is limited, the lower end of the bottom member being spaced from the real Wall, a dispe nsing plate pivoted in said cas ing and hav1ng a member normally closing 5 the space between the bottom member and when the p1ate is raised, the bottom Wall lying within the path of the dispei1sing plate so as to partake o1 said movement, and the plat-e being provided With a receiving channe1 in its lower end.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name t0 this specification.
