Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK R. GLASOOOK, OF HILLSBOROUGH, OHIO.
i IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,933, dated January 19, 1875; application lled December 18, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, F. R. GLAsooCK, of Hillsborough, in the county of Highland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Fasteners 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accmpanyin g drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
My invention consists in the adaptation of a flanged bar or shoe-piece of peculiar construction to serve as a slide to holdthe sash,
as will be hereinafter more fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
In order toenable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a face View; Fig. 2, the same reversed. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of Fig. l on line a' x.
A represents a metal plate of any suitable dimensions, secured von the front of the window-sash near one side. On the inner or under side of this plate is a recess cut through the outer edge of the plate at a. In this recess is placed a circular disk, B, provided on one side with a cam, b. From the center of the disk B a stud, d, passes through the plate A, and to this stud, immediately on the outy side of the plate, is secured a crank, C. The inner edge of the plate A is covered by means of a anged bar or shoe-piece, D, which is provided with a tongue, e, entering the slot a into the recess on the plate, and bearing against the edge of the eccentric B b. By
the turning of the crank O in one direction, the cam'b, operatingagainst the tongue e, will force the slide D out against the windowframe, and thus hold the sash; and when the crank is turned in the opposite direction, the pressure of the cam on the tongue is released, allowing the slide to move inward and the sash to be raised or lowered, as desired. When the cam b is turned away from the tongue e, its square end rests against a stop or shoulder, t, in the. recessed plate; and it will be noticed that, when the slide is forced out by the eccentric, it has a bearing, az, behind, which prevents its slipping when locked.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the recessed plate A,
having slot a and stop t', the eccentric B b,`
having bearing x, the crank G, and the llanged bar orl slide D, having tongue e, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK R. GLASOOGK.
