DISIELAY GABINET.
Application filed. May 12, 1924. Serial No. 712,684.
This invention relates generally to display cabinets and refers more partlcularly to those designed for displayingseed packages' and the like. I
One of the essential objects of. the invention is to provide a strong and durable cablnet of this type that is preferably formed of display sections which may 'be compactly folded for shipment and which may be'easily and quickly opened or set up for dlsplay purposes. s j
Another object is to pro-vide a single member for holding the display Sections in closed or folded position. w
A further object is to provide simple and practical means for holding the cover section in open position for display purposes.
lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel fea- 2c` tures of construction, combination and ar- 4rangementof parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In' theaccompanying drawing: Figurel is a perspective view of a cabinet embodying my invention when set up;
. Figure 2 is an endelevation of the cabinet and showing portons thereof in section;
Figure 3 is an end elevation of the cabinet when closed; j
Figure a is a fragmentary front elevation of the cabinet when closed;
.Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate corre- Sponding'parts throughout the several views the numeral 1 designates a cabinet embodying my invention preferably having a main section 2 cooperating with Wing Sections 3 and a cover section 4. As shown, the main section 2 is preferably provided with a bottom portion 5 and the upright back and end portons 6 and 7 respectively. The upright sections are rigidly secured to the bottom portion 5 while the latter is preferablyprovided at its forward edge with a central extension 8 that is preferably equal in width to the width of the wing sections 8. Each wing section is preferably provided with abottom portion 9 and the upright front and end portons 10 and 11 respectively. As shown, the end portion 11 of each wing section is hinged to the adj acent end portion 7 of the main section, while the bottom portions 9 of the wing sections are preferably cut away as shown at 12 to receive the forward extension 8 of the main section when the wing sections are closed. Thus, the eX- V tension 8 serves as a reijnforcing member for the wing sections when closed and prevents undue strain upon the hinges'cOnnectng the same to the mainsection. To provide a compact structure the wing sections 3 are preferably the same heightas the main section 2 whereby the upper edges of the main section will be fiush with the upper edges of the Wing sections when the latter are closed.
In order that the seed packages, envelopes and the like may be conveniently displayed in the main and wing sections of the cabinet, I preferably provide suitable steppedshelves 13 comprising a series of vertical members 14 and a Vseries of l1orizontal`members 15. The lowermost horizontal members of the shelvesare preferably rigidly secured to the bottom portons of themain and Wing sections, while the uppermost vertical members of the respective shelves are preferably rigidly secured to the back and front portions of the mainand wing sections. Suitable spaced arched wire brackets 16 are preferably terminally secured to the horizontalV members of each shelf at the forward edges thereof, while alternating with these` brackets are inclined brace wires 17 which are preferablyterminally secured *to the lowermost horizontalV members of the stepped shelves and to the back andv front portons 6 and 10 respectively'of the main and Wing sections. Thus, inclined braces 17 c'ooperate with .the brackets 16 and the end portons of the main and wing sections to form cells or compartments for receiving the seed packages. As shown. suitable end pieces 18 are secured to tle front portons 10 of the Wing sections an" to the lowermost horizontal members 15 of the shelves carried by the two sections to complete the cell construction o-f the wing'sections. w j
In order that the top section 4 may also be used as a display section when set up, I preferably provide a stepped shelf 19 that is j rigidly secured to the lower face of the top and also provide a pair of substantially U- shaped hinges 20 that connect the' top to the main section 2 whereby the lowermost horizontal member 21 of the steppe'd shelf may rest upon the upper edge of the back portion 6 of the main section when the top is in open position. As shown, the arms 22 of the U-shaped hinges are preferably connected to the upper face of the top and to the '20.to1' 'holding the ;sectionsof the cabinet lin closed or 'tolded position 'tor shipment. As shown, this `strap is preterably secuted by ,means .ot .the ;sc'rews29 to the upper ,face of' :the topand isl-proyided .With aV pivoted sec- .tionO that zis ,adapted .tooverlap the tree ends 'of the Wing Sections ;land that iS provided. wath a ffoot portion 31 ;tor leng'agement .with the .extension 8 ot the main section.
' Any .suitable nieanssuch as .scijews .V32 may ,be used :torsecuring'the-foct portion :31 of the -stl'apjto the.. ei ten sion y;8 of the main section.
AF1:o1n..t,he .I"oregoing description, it Will be l:reajdily .apparent that I have .provided a very simple.and practical cabinet. Due to the compact arrangement .of ithe parts the Gabinet ,willoccupy .a Very ;small space .that it may .beusedto good advantage tor .displaying Seeds V.and the lil-:e v.on .top .o't eounters or show cases.
Other seedboxes ot ,which I am ,now awareare tooheavy vand cumbcrsome tor show case display. The oabinetalso makes Van ideal shipping` containerandsoliies the small sales problem.
lVhile it is believedlthat lfrom lthe .tore- ...going 'description the nature and advantages ot the `invention ivill.` be readily apparent, I desire;to have it.understoodsthat Ido ,not ;limit myself ,to what is hereinshovn ,and described, and `that such lchanges ,may be -i'esorted'to When desired as fall within ,the
scopefot what is claimed.
