IMPROVEMENT IN AGAME APPARATUS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patfnt No.1'5.8,655, dated January l2, 187i application filed November 24,1874.

To all whom it may concern: l'

Be it known that I, CHARLES B. WAIN- WRIGHT, of the city and county of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a Wicket Game, of which the following is a specification My invention relates to the combination and arrangement of a ball suspended by a cord from the top of a Wire Wicket, which is stood upon its ends on the floor or lawn, and a grooved block, which has an opening to receive a ball to be propelled by a stroke from a cue held in the hand of the player; the object being to strike the suspended ball With the ball in the block. The shallow groove in the block is to give steadiness and accuracy to the stroke of the cue.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan view ot' the cross-bows or Wicket A A and a suspended ball, B, Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view ofthe grooved block D, having a ball7 E, in position to be shot forward for striking the ball B. Fig.4 is a side view of the same. Fig. 5 is a side viewof the cue F.

Like letters of reference in all the figures indicate the same parts.

A A are wicket-bows, which are held together by means of the rivet b, upon which they turn, so as to be folded up when not in use, or opened at right angles to each other, as seen in Figs. l and 2, to set steadily upon the tloor or lawn, for suspending the ball B by means of the cord C. D is a block, which has a semicircular recess, c, at one end, in Which is placed a ball, E, which rests upon the floor. There is a longitudinal groove, d, extending from the semicircular recess c to the other end Instead of suspending the ball E by means of the wicket-bows A A, any other convenient inode may be adopted, the ball B being so suspended. as to be struck with the ball E, when that and the block C are in line.

I claim as my inventionl. The game apparatus described, consisting of block D, having a semicircular recess, c, for holding a ball, and longitudinal groove d for guiding the cue F, and the ball B, suspended by means of the cord C, attached to any convenient device, substantiallyin the manner and for the purpose above specified.

The 'game apparatus described, consist- I ing of a wicket composed of the Wires A A, having ball B suspended by cord C from the center of its t0p,'and the block D, having a semicircular recess, c, to receive the balls E, and longitudinal groove d to guide the end of the cue F, all arranged to operate substantially as set forth.
