SASH-LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 15,857, dated October '7, 1856.`
To all 'whom t may concern: A e
Be it known that I, OWEN REDMOND, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement `in ySash-Locks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a view showing interior of lock with bolt protruding. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing bolt withdrawn. Fig. 3 is a view of outside of the lock. Fig. t is an edge view.
Similar letters denote the same part. The nature of my invention consists in combining a swinging bolt, and wedge operating slide, within a case, as will be hereinafter described, so that the protruding of the bolt and the securing of the same shall be due to the gravity of the operating n slide.
The details of construction and operation are as follows: `In the drawing `C is the case containing bolt B swinging on pin p, and a sliding piece S, formed as shown in the drawing, having a small stud a within slot b, of the case, so that the slide can be lifted The weight of the slide S, causes the ine clined plane d, to act on arm e of bolt B, and project the tongue j", while the incline z', securely fastens the said bolt, as: shown in Fig. l. The raising of slide S, causes arm m of said slide to lift arm e of the bolt and draw the tongue f within the case.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The swinging bolt B, in combination with the slide S, and case C, constructed, arranged and operating as described, so that the gravity of the slide shall shoot the bolt and maintain it in position.
