Description
UNI ED STATES PATENT OFFICE- OHARLES W. JENKINS, OF RICHMOND, VIRGINIA.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,498, dated January 5.1675} application filed July 8, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES W. JENKINs, of Richmond, in the county of Henrico and in the State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steel Brushes for Cleaning Castings; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a brush for foundry purposes,
hinged top, which lies upon the heads of the wire groups, and confines them in place. D represents a group of wire pieces, which may be round or square or other shape, which are cut of suitable length, and bent, as seen in Fig. 3, and their ends brought together again. At the centers of these wires, where they are bent, a conical metal head is formed by casting lead or other suitable metal around them. This conical head fits in the conical opening in the body of the brush, the ends projecting through and forming a brush, as seen in Fig. 1. These groups are held in place by the hinged top R.
When said top is raised, any or all of the groups may be removed, and thus the brush mended or made anew.
This brush is used more particularly for cleaning castings, and for such rough work.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The body A, provided with conical openings, in combination with the groups D and their conical heads, and the cover B, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 26th day of 7 June, 1874.
CHARLES W. JENKINS.
