FIG]
INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented May 18, 1926.
UNITED STATES GEORGE L. ROBBINS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
KEY HOLDER.
Application filed April 8, 1925.
The invention relates to an improvement in key holders of a type usually attached to a leather folder.
The invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is an assembly View showing the key holder loop in the closed position; Figure 2 a sectional view and Figure 3 an assembly view, showing the key holder loop in the open position.
A description of the combination is as follows To the leather or other fabric, folder 1, the metal plate 2 is attached by means of a number of eyelets 3. The key holder 4, is made of a substantial round wire in the form of an oblong loop, which fits into a sleeve or ferrule 5 formed by an extension of plate 2. A coil compression spring 6, presses against the left side of the hook, tending to keep it in a closed position. I11 the sleeve or ferrule there is a notch 7, the notched portion being pressed into the sleeve thus providing a limit or stop for right hand of the oblong loop and also serves as a shoulder or stop against which the coil spring presses and prevents it from being pushed through the sleeve or ferrule.
The operation of this key holder is as follows Referring to the accompanying drawing, the snaps 8 of the leather or other folder are opened and the folder opened along the creases 9. The oblong key holder 4, is then pulled out towards the right from the position shown in Figure 1 to the position shown in Figure 3, the compression coil spring 6, being compressed as shown in Figure 3. The keys are then threaded on the open part of the loop, after which this open part of the oblong loop is allowed to enter the sleeve or ferrule 5, thus closing the loop. The spring 6 pressing against the longer or left side of the loop tends to close the loop and keep it in a closed position.
which the ferrule or sleeve 5 is formed, also acts as a stiffening member for the leather or other folder, thereby making a much In this invention the metal plate 2 of Serial No. 21,603.
better article and one costing less to manufacture.
Having described the invention, and outlined its operation claim:-
1. In a key holder comprising a leather or like folder, a key holding loop and anchoring means therefor, said anchoring means comprising a bearing portion and a locking portion for engaging portions of said loop to form a continuously closed ring, and adapted to be opened for the insertion or removal of keys or like members by relative bodily movement of the loop to the anchoring means, said anchoring means being formed with a stiffening plate attached to said folder.
2. A key holder comprising a folder, a plate secured thereto, said plate formed with an anchoring ferrule and a folder attaching and stiffening portion, loop pivotally mounted within said ferrule adapted to form a closed ring therewith, said loop comprising a sliding bearing portion and a shorter locking finger, a comprission spring for yieldingly holding said ferrule and loop for relative bodily movement of the loop to the anchoring ferrule, the folder coordinating with said plate to facilitate the insertion or removal of keys or like members when sliding said loop and disengaging the locking finger from said ferrule.
3. For use with a leather folder or the like and adapted to be attached thereto, a key holding loop and anchoring means therefor, said anchoring means comprising a bearing portion and a locking portion for engaging portions of said loop to form a continuously closed ring, and adapted to be opened for the insertion or the removal of keys or the like by relative bodily movement of the loop to the anchoring means, said anchoring means being formed with a stiffening plate.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name to this specification this 10 day of March, 1925.
GEO. L. ROBBINS.
