This invention relates to plaster board,"
plaster lath and the like, comprising a cem-- entitious core and covering .sheets of pliable material, such as paper. Such board or lath in the process of manufacture, transportation ot' the finished board,; and installation of thesame, is subjecti td injury and damage at the edges. It has been proposed' to protect the edges with a covering of pliable material which may by folding over a marginal edge portion of a covering sheet .or by-applying a separate stripfthereto. To eil'ective y protect the edgeJ the latter should be or lath of this character, it is often found advantageous to lill the joints with a plaster cement or like binder. Such joint material does not adhere as effectively tothe paper as to the plaster body. i
.The primary object of this invention is to provide a plaster board having a margin of a covering sheet folded over at'the edge so as to reinforce and protect the latter, the olded portion at the edge being such as to dispose suilicient of the plaster body to provide binding areas.
These objects together with other objects and rresponding accomplishments are obtained by means of the embodiments .of my invention' illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which: Fig. 1 is a` perspective view showi a fragment `of a plaster board construcin accorda-nce with my invention; Fig. 2 is a perspective viewy showing a fragment of a board illustrating another form of the'in' 3 is a perspectiveview of a fragment of the board showing still another form of the invention. i
Referring more 'particularly to Fig. 1, a plaster body has covering sheets 6 and 7 of paper bound thereto by means nowA well A known in the art. The edges of the sheets 6 l tend only partially are scalloped as' indicated by 8. The scaldimensions that when toldthe board, they will ex lac :roasthe body ofthe plaster. The covering sheet 7 is of the same character as sheet 6 and-is provided with lo s are of such e over the edge of figuration: that areas. of the plaster body are ex Plaster cementA applied between the edges of`adjoining Rlasterboard will' contact with the plaster and adhere firmly' imposition, thereby providing a good joint.-
be accomplished "to lex j '5., plaster board comprising, in combiln Fig. 2, a plaster body l0 is shown covered by sheets 11 and 12. The edges of the sheets are serrated, teeth being formed which are herein shown as extending nearer thc opposite side of theboard than the scallops 1n Fig. 1. These teeth indicated by 13 and 14 arejpreferably arranged to mesh so that there 1s a wavy band of exposed plaster at the edge to which the "joint cement plaster may adhere.
Instead of the construction shown in'F ig.
2, only one of the'sheets may have serratedf edges. Such a construction is shown in Fig. 3, the plaster core being indicated by 15, a covering sheet of the usual form being indicated by 16, and a serrated edge sheet being indicated by 17. TheC teeth 18 may be eX- tende-d close to the sheet 16. This construction leaves exposed areas of plaster to which the plaster cement may adhere'.
It is obvious that various other constructions may be employed, that is, the serrations or scallops may be of various configurations. In the claims appended hereto the terms serrations'or scallops are used broadly j' without regard to the special configurations.
What I claim is: l. A scribed comprising a cementiticns body and a coveringv sheet disposed on the' facethereof, said covering sheet having av serrated edge folded over the edge vof said body so as to expose areas of the latter atthe edge.
scrbed comp 'sm a cementitious body and a coverm s eet disposed on each face thereplaster board ofthe character de-l y .2. A plaster board of the character deof, oneo said covering sheets having serf ratededges oldedvover the edge oi the body so as to explose' areas of the latter at the edges.
3. A plaster board of the character described comprising a bod and a covering sheet disposed Pon each da covering sheet having a serrated edge folded over theeed e of'said body so as to expose areas of t ye latter at the edge.
f4. A plaster board of the character describedcomprising al lolody,y and a covering 'sheet disposedv on each face thereof, said covering sheets having opposite edges serrated and folded over the edges of said' body, said serrations being so disposedv as e areas of the body at the edges.
nation, 'a body of plaster or the 1ike, 4eover ce thereof, said sheetscovering the opposite faces of said body and adhering thereto, the margins of said sheets being folded to cover the edges of said body without overlapping; said margins being deformed at intervals length- Wise thereof to supply anchorage with the material of said body, the underformed portions of said margins conforming to the edges of said body.
6. A plaster board comprising, in combination, a body of plaster or the like, cover sheets covering the opposite faces of said body. and adhering thereto, the margins of said sheets being folded to cover the edges of said body without overlapping; said margins being cut out at intervals lengthwise thereof to supply anchorage with the material of said body, the uncut portions of said margins conforming to the edges of said'body.
7. A plaster board comprising, in combination, a body of plaster or the like, cover sheets covering the opposite faces of said body and adhering thereto, the margins of said sheets being folded to cover the edges of said body without overlapping, said margms being notched at intervals lengthwise thereof to supply anchorage With the material of said body.
8. A plaster board comprising, in combi-v nation, a body of plaster or the like, cover sheets covering the opposite faces of said body and adhering thereto to'reinforce said body from edge to edge, the margins of said cover sheets'. being serrated and folded to cover the edges of said body, the serrations of said margins serving to form a mechanical bond with the body.
9. A plaster board comprising a body, cover sheets applied to the faces of said body and having marginal portions folded over and upon the edge of said body, said rrargnal portions being serrated along their e ges.
l0. A plaster board comprising a plaster body, sheetspf fibrous material on opposite sides of said body, the margins of one `of said sheets being folded over upon an edge face of said body and provided along its edge with serrations.
11. A plaster board comprising a plaster body, sheets of fibrous material on opposite sides of said body, the margins @of said sheets being folded over an edge of said body and lterminating in spaced relation, there being formed longitudinally spaced sei-rations throughout said folded portions.
l2. A plaster board comprising a plaster body and sheets of fibrous material covering the faces thereof, the marginal portions of said sheets being folded over and embedded in the edge face of said body and terminating in spaced relation substantially midway of said edge face, said marginal portions being serrated to provide a bond with the material of said body.
In Witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name this 27 th day of October,l 1924. l
