Description
May 11 1926. n v A. E. DAVIS SIGNl EXHIBITOR Filed Jung 25, l1924 INVENTOIR BY/ MM@ j M ATTORNEYS .le 'A Patented May 11, 1926.
ANTHONY E. DAVIS, 0F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
i SIGN EXHIBITOR.
Application led June 25,
My present invention comprehends a novel construction and arrangement of a sign exhibitor which can bel economically manufactured, and wherein, when desired, the sign can be readily removed and replaced by another sign. i 4
It further comprehends a novel sign exhibitor formed of an outer frame to which are secured slot forming guides-to `receive the sign, and wherein one of said guides is readily removable in order that one sion may be removed and another sign may e inserted and fixed in place.
Other novel featuresy of construction and advantage will hereinafter more clearly appear in the detailed description and the appended claims.
For the purpose of illustrating` the invention, I have shown in the accompanying drawing a typical embodiment of it, which, in practice, will give reliable and satisfactory results. It is, however, to be understood that this embodiment is typical only and that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized, and that the invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities as herein -set forth.
Figure l is a front elevation of a sign exhibitor embodying my invention.
Figure 2V is an end elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a removable guide, in detached position.
Figure 4 is a section on line 4 4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a front elevation of another embodiment of my invention.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings:
l designates a sign exhibitor, embodying my invention. The sign exhibitor is provided with a. frame 2 preferably formed from sheet material which is bent into any desired formation, and the juxtaposed free ends of such frame are preferably welded together as indicated at 3.
4 and 5 designate permanent guides, preferably in the form of angles, the faces of the angles being disposed substantially at right angles to each other. These guides are secured to the inner face of the frame 2 in spaced relationship to each other byv means of fastening devices 6 such, as lor 1924. Serial N'o. 722,189
example, rivets.k The guide cxtends Aentirely around the frame 2 but the v.side .arms` or members of the guide 4 terminate intermediate opposite sides of the frame-.as in-fr dicated at 7, in order that the sign 8 may be inserted in the slot formed between the 9 designatesa removable guides 4 and 5. guide member in the form of any angle, the
ends of which .are deiiected to form side y members 10, which, when inserted within the I frame 2 as shown in Figure 1, form a continuation of the side members of the guide 4. This removable guide 9 is secured in fixed position by means of fastening devices l1, such as bolts'and nuts or equivalent 1astening devices. The apertures in the frame to receive the fastening devices 11 are -prefi erably countersunk in orderv to formaflush joint with the outer face of the frame.
The frame is supported by means of the base 12 which consists of a bar of sheet material which is bent to form the table 13 from which the bar diverges downwardly asY at 15 and terminates in the'foot flanges 15.A
The bar is braced by means of a brace bar or member 16 having flanges which are welded or otherwise connected to the diverging members 14. The base members 12 are connected to the frame by means of fasten* ing devices 17, such as, for example, the bolts and nuts shown.
In the embodiment of my invention,
frame, instead ofbeing welded together, terminate in proximity to each other preferably at the bottom of the frame and are secured thereto by certain of the fastening devices, 6.
l/Vhen it is desired to remove the sign, all that it is necessary to do is remove the fastening devices 11. and remove the guide 9, whereupon the sign can be readily removed from the slot formed between the guides 4 and 5, as is apparent. Vhen a new sign is inserted into such slots, its removal is prevented by securing the removable guide 9 in place by means of the fastening devices 11, as is shown in Figure 1.
The base, the frame and the guide are preferably formed from sheet metal so that the sign exhibitor will be rigid .and durable, and so that it can be economically manufactured. p
If desired, the base of the frame may be ywas wider than the thickness of the frame,
` the sign exhibitors were difficult to pack and 'the cost of packing and shipping were very great. 'Ihe sign exhibitor'herein disclosed can be'l readily taken yapart and assembled by unskilled labor and when shipped in a knock-down condition form a package of minimum size, and of uniform dimensions, with consequent economy in the cost of packing and shipping.
It'will now be apparent that I have devised a new and useful sign exhibitor which embodies thefeatures of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the f above description, and while I have, in the present instance, shown and 'described a preferred embodiment thereof which will give in practice satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that this embodiment is susceptible of modification in various particulars with out' departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any ofits ad-v vantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. In a sign exhibitor, a frame comprising an outer member, spaced slot forming guides secured to said member, one of said guides terminating intermediate opposite sides of said frame, and a removable sign securing member forming a continuation of one of said guides and spaced from the other of said guides.
2. In a sign exhibitor, a frame comprising an outer member, an angle secured to the inner face of'said member, a second angle securedA to` said member in spaced relation ship to said first angle to form a sign receiving slot extending upwardly from the bottom of said frame, and a third removable angle secured to said member to form a continuationV of said second member and prevent the improper removal of said sign.
knockdown condition with the frame being disposed within the planes of the frame to form a package of minimum size.
