Be it known that I, PETER G. JAcoBsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, -in the county of Cook and the State of Illinois, have invented a certain- 0n line 8-8 of Fig. 4; Fig. 9 is a perspecnew and useful Improvement in Die Mechative view illustrating one of the condenser msm, of which the following is a full, clear, plate supports and a condenser plate in concise, and exact description. A separated relation; Fig. 1() is a perspective My invention relates to die mechanism view illustrating one of the condenser supand is of particular service in effecting the ports and a condenser plate after assembly, one condenser plate being omitted from one densers with complemental condenser arts. The die mechanism of myinvention inc udes a group ofdie plates having narrow spaces therebetween in which the condenser` plates of a group constituting a condenser side may be partially received preparatory to the die operation. There is another group of die plates complemental to the first and in register therewith, this second group of die plates being moved against the first in the condenser plate assembling operation. Metallic supports are provided for the condenser plates, these supports being slotted to receive the condenser plates, the plate receiving slots being slightly wider than the thickest plate that is apt to be included in the condenser construction. The die plates are desirably formed to swedge the metal of the condenser plate supports between the slots therein so as to contract the width of portions of these slots to hold the condenser plates firmly in assembly with their Asupports. The swedging effected by the die mechanism produces enlargements, in the metal between the condenser plate receiving' slots, that are symmetrical whereby the median planes of the condenser platesare caused to be equidistant irrespective of the thickness of the condenser plates which varies in practice.

The die mechanism of my invention is^ particularly adapted to the assembly of the condenser plates of stator condenser sides with the supports for such plates. The stator condenser side illustrated includes a be assembled with metallic supportsv 2. These supports are preferably tubular or sleevelike and are initially of U shape as illustrated in Fig. 9. The sides of each supcate with the interior of the support to form spaced apart fingers 4. The condenser plates, which are preferably triangular in the lingers 4 are curled to finally form a slotted sleeve support as illustrated in Fig. l0 where the tips of the. fingers are shown Das being spread symmetrically in Aorder to lirmly engage the condenser plates and hold the median planes thereof equidistant.

An eccentric 19l is received within and engages the sides of the slot 20 in the base extension of theblock 17. This eccentric has a handle 21 by which it may be turned upon its shaft 22 to ,place the I block 7 against the adjacent ends of the condenser plate supports 2 to prepare for the die operation, and to withdraw the block 17 from said, supports 2 uplon the completion of the die operation. The anvils desirably have the con- Vex cross sectional formation, illustrated in Figs. 12 and 14 so that the. lingers of the condenser plate supports 2 are not onlycurled as described 4but are also swedged at their tips and symmetrically, whereby Athe ing'er tips are spread into tight-holding engagement with the condenser plates and in a manner to hold the medianplanes of these plates equidistant. The fingers 32 may be hinged, eachJ at one end, and may be provided at their other ends with a common handle 33 whereby the ejecting fingers may be swung upwardly to eject thel completed condenser side and downwardly, prepara` tory to the location of a new condenser side; Thebores which aredened .by the pins 9 in the supports 2 are vgenerally penetrated by means of assembling bolts which are em- -ployedto mount the condenser side in a stationary position. The complemental con-- denser Vside is not illustrated. It is custom'- Varilyrotatively mounted as is well understood in order to adjust the condense:` capacity.
Changes may be made from' my invention.
Having thus described my invention, l claim:
1.-Die mechanism including two sets of die plates with the plates of each set narwithout departing vrowly spaced apart, the plates of one Set Y being in register with the plates of the other; a pinextending transversely of and between the sets of die plates; a mounting for the pin movabletoward and from the die plates; and spring means pressing upon said mounting in a direction parallel to the die plates and engageable by an engaging portion provided upon the set of die plates toward which said pin mounting is spring pressed.
2. Die mechanism including two sets of die plates with the plates of each set narrowly spaced apart, the plates of one set being in register .with the plates of the other; a pin extending transversely .of and between the sets of die plates; a mountingl for the 'pin movable toward and from the die plates; and a cross-head carrying said pin mounting and moving it transversely otl the sets of dies.
3.
