UNITED STATES GERBARD 0. LA MARSHA, OF TAFT, CALIFORNIA.
ADJUSTABLE BASE FOR POWER-PLANT UNITS.
Application filed April 5, 1923. Serial No. 630,117.
7 T 0 all whom it mayconcern Be it known that I, GERRARD C. LA MARS- NA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Taft, in the county of Kern'and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Bases for Power-Plant Units; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a portable electric power plant unit primarily adapted to operate pumps.
An important object is to provide a means to reduce the time and expense required in the oil fields to change over or replace the steam or as drive by electric power which is now a most universally preferred, but adaptation of which to old well pumps is thwarted by the time and expense now necessary in making the change or replacement; for instance, at the present time the changing over operation requires about three or four days time as contrasted with about three hours time by the practice of my in vention.
It is also aimed to provide such a unit as enables the partsto be assembled in the shop and the motor and wiring to be there tested, permitting shipment of the unit to the place of use, cessation of operation of the steam or gas engine to be replaced, connection of the feed wires, attachment of the belt to the pulley and operation of the motor,
in a comparatively short period of time.
In addition to the saving in time and labor effected in the shut-down operation, it is aimed to provide the unit of such construction that it may be rapidly transported from place to place in the field with the minimum cost'of disconnection and reinstallation. It is aimed to provide the device of the novel construction, combinations, arrangements 'and'details as illustrated in accompanying drawings and hereinafter described.
In said drawings -Figure 1 is a top plan view of the power plant base frame with the superstructure in section,
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Figure'l, and
Figure 3 is a similar view taken on the line 33 of said figure.
Like reference characters designate like or similar parts in the different. views.
In reducing the invention to practice, a plurality of spaced elongated I-beams are provided at 10. These beams. are of any suitable metal and have their webs which are designated 11, vertically disposed in order to arrange their flanges 12 and 13 as lower and upper, respectively. Spanning the webs 11 are tie members 44 in the form of metallic pipes as shown having their ends occupying openings in the webs" 11 and being welded or otherwise rigidly fastened to said webs. The parts described form an efficient foundation for an electric motor and associated parts.
A base frame for an electric motor is shown as at 19. Frame 19 is generally rectangular and has lateral cars 20. Bolts 21 pass through openings in the cars 20 and openings in the flanges 13. Spanning the space of the frame 19 and slidably mounted longitudinally thereof is a bar 22 which has spaced flanges 23 for. rigid detachable connection with a nfotor (not shown) in combination with bolts 24:. Sleeves 25 project from the bar 22 and bolts 26, which pass loosely through the frame 19, are screw threaded in sleeves 25. Said bolts 26 have heads 27. Bolts 26 may be manipulated so as to vary the position of the bar 22 and accordingly of the motor thereon.
Adjacent the ends of the foundationbeams 10 opposite to the frame 19 may be erected a frame which may rest upon the uprights 32 and 33 and used to support a rheostat, controller, switch and other devices to be used in connection with the motor (not shown) heretofore referred to. These uprights are preferably metallic beams of L-. shape provided with attaching feet 34 resting on the flanges 13 and fastened thereto by means of bolts 35.
Attention is also called to the fact that l in addition to the saving made in minimizing the shut-down incidental to replacing steam or gas units, that the unit is capable of rapid transportation to any point about 3.l1 oilfield or other source of use with minimum work, cost of disconnection and reinstallation.
If desired, a floor or platform 55 may be bolted at 56 to the flanges 13 between frame 31 and the plate 19. A guard frame 57 may rise from platform 55. c
As merely one operative embodiment has been illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
What is'claimed is 1. A support of the class described comprising an open frame, a bar carried by said frame and extending across the opening thereof, said bar at its terminals overlapping the under surface of said frame, and means on the frame to adjust the bar longitudinally of the frame to move anassociated article.
2. A support of the class described having foundation beams in spaced relation provided with lateral flanges at their upper ends, an open frame supported on said, flanges and at itssides extending-inwardly 1 beyond the flanges, a bar carried by said frame extending across the opening thereof, said bar at its'terminals overlapping the under surface of the frame inwardly of and in line with said flanges and means on the 20 frame to adjust the bar longitudinally of the frame to move an associated article.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
GERRARD C. LA MARSNA.
