PASQUALE COVIEIiLO, OF HIGHLAND MILLS, NEW YORK.
' SCALE-TONIC APPLICATOR.
Application filed october 22, 1924. Serial 1105745305.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PASQUALE OovinLLo, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Highland Mills, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Scalp-Tonic Applicator, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to devices for treating the scalp and particularly to an improved construction whereby scalp tonic may be applied and rubbed into the scalp sub stantially at the same time. p
The object of the invention is to provide an improved simplified structure wherein the treating fiuid may be applied, directly from its original container or from a special container and the scalp prepared for the re ception of the fluid as it is applied.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved applicator for scalp tonic, the structure being such that a plurality 01" spaced massaging members are presented, the same being associated with a dispensing structure for dispensing small quantities of the tonic while the massaging members are in action. a
In the accompanying drawlng' Figure 1 is an elevation of an applicator disclosing an embodiment of the lIlVQIltlOIl,
the same being shown appliedto a bottle. Figure 2 is a sectional view through Figure 3, approximately on line 22. 1 Figure 3 is a sectional View throng Figure 1, approximately on line 3-3'.'
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a bottle orcontainer of any suitable kind adapted to receive a. quantity of tonic 2 or other liquid to be applied to the scalp when the device is in use. It is to be understood that the device is intended to be rubbed on the scalp during the time the liquid 2 is being discharged thereon. In order to efiectively accomplish this purpose, the applicator 3 is provided with a threaded socket 4 adapted to screw on the threaded upper endor neck 5 of bottle 1 as illustrated particularly in Figures 2 and 3. The socket-4: merges into an enlarged body 6 which may be grasped by the thumb and finger at the same time i that the bottle isgrasped when the device is in use. In addition, the body 6 is provided with a cavity or chamber 7 from which a number of passage-ways S extend, said passage-ways merging into the passage-ways or openings 9 in the various discharge fingers 10, 11 and 12. Associated with these. fingers are other fingers 13 and 14 which are not hollow. It is to be understood that any number of fingers may be hollow and also any number solid within certain limits as it has been found desirable to use a single finger which is hollow and which discharges the tonic where the scalp needs principally massaging rather than a tonic and under other circumstances where the scalp needs treating with medicine, two,
three or more discharging fingers are desirable. and 3 that all the hollow fingers have an outer. solid end or section 15 which is rounded similar to the ends of fingers 13 and 14 whereby they may also act in the capacity of massaging membersfas the deviceis rubbed backand forth over the head.
In use, after the device has been mounted on the bottle as shown in Figure 1, the bottle and applicator are then inverted and the fingers rubbed back and forth over the scalp. This back and forth movement of the fingers in'contact' with the scalp will produce a massaging efiect, and at the same time will shake the bottle sufliciently to per mit a gentle flow of the tonicthrough the' various discharge apertures 16 whereby the tonic is distributed properly and is rubbed into the scalp at the same time.
In constructing the applicator 3, the same maybe made from hard rubber or other material without departing from the spirit of the invention provided a number of fingers are provided and at least onedischarge finger. After the bottle 1 has been emptied,
the applicator may be readily removed therefrom and applied to a second bottle and so on for the life of the applicator.
hat I claim is A scalp tonic applicator comprising a comparatively flat body, a pluralityof fingers It will be noted from Figures 1 70 projecting from the outer end of the body having their longitudinal axes arranged in the same plane, the inner end of the body being reduced and provided with a chamber, i and internal threads adapted to secure the body to a. container, the intennediately disposed fingers heing each provided with a longitudinal passage and a discharge port at the free end thereof, the central portion of the body having passages connecting the passages in the intermediate fingers with the chamber, the fingers at each side of the intermediate fingers being solid.
