Description

Feb. 16 1926.
P. R. SYERS LAUNDRY TRUCK Filed Jan. .22 1925 gwwrr zlot Paul R .Syers Patented Feb. 16, 1926.
PAUL n. SYERS, or rnniannrorrs, INDIANA.
LAUNDRY TRU CK.
Application filed January 22, .925. Serial No. @125.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL R. Srnns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Laundry Trucks, of which the following is a speci- 'fication. 1 a V My said invention relates to a truck for use in laundries and it has combined there' with bag supports or holders so constructed and arranged that the weight of the goods within the bag will operate to hold the mouth of the bag open by gravity, the weight of a pivoted support being aided by the weight of the bag and the goods within the bag when the bag has been filled or partially filled, all as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
Referring to the drawings which are made a part hereof andon which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing one of my said laundry trucks with a bag in position on one side and a smaller bag indicated in position on the opposite side of the apparatus; V
Figure 2, a central longitudinal section through the lower portion of the truck;
Figure 3, a cross section on the dotted line 3-3 in Figure 2; and
Figure 4, a detail section on the dotted line 4-- l in Figure 2.
In said drawings the portion marked A represents the truck body, B the casters on which it is mounted, and the stationary supports for the bag.
The truck A and casters B are of any approved formbut preferably constructed of iron with the truck body in the form of a box with an open top. a
The supports C are vertical standards preferably stamped out of sheet steel. They are formed with flanged edges 0 and extend to an appropriate heig t to support a bag of such slze as lSCOHllllOIllY used in laundry work for hauling the clothes being laundered to or from the washing machines and for such like uses.
A pivoted support 10 of a construction similar to the supports or standards C is mounted adjacent to each end of the truck on a pivot 11, said pivot being located near the inner lower corner of said support.
whereby the upper end of the support will tilt outwardly on its pivot by 'gravity,as"
indicatcd in Figsl and 2.
A. support 12 consisting Ora platform or shelf is mounted by means of elongated eyes 13 and lugs lt at a point near the, lower end of each of said supports 10, its opposite end being supported on a bail-like support 15 pivotally mounted at each end in the respective sides of the truck body adjacent to the supportsC. a. a
As will be understood by an inspection of the drawings, the two ends of the truck are duplicates one of the other, the rigid supports C being back to back in the center of the truck and the pivoted supports 10 being at each end of the truck and adapted to tilt or fall outwardly away from the supports C. The platfrom 12 is so mounted that any weight brought upon said platform bears downwardly outside the pivot-11 and adds to the pressure by which said supports 10 are forcedoutwardly at the top.
Thus the weight of the laundrybag with its contents resting upon the platform 12, aids in forcing and holding the top of the standards or supports 10 away from'th'e rigid supports 0 keepingthe top of the bag open. Said supports G and 10 are also preferably formed, as shown, of sheet metal in such a shape that the laundry bag, which when filled bulges outward, will bear against the standards and by pressure against such standards also help to hold the top of the laundry bag open.
' Each standard is centrally slotted from the top for a distance toward its center and is formed with in-turned flanges 16 and 17 by means of which bags of smaller size than the bags shown at the right in Fig. 1 may be hung over the tops, that is, bags. too small to be stretched entirely across the full width of the tops of said standards may have a, cuff turned down to surround opposedv forks :18 and 19, as illustrated in dotted lines in Figure 1, so that fourbags instead of two may be supported on the truck here shown, if desired, 7
It will be understood that supports 0 and 10 iniglrt in some instances be mounted on a stat nary base or floor and many other changes will occur to those skilled in the art for which reason I do not limit-myself to the precise embodiment of the invention as shown in the drawings and described in the specification but only as indicated in two shown.
to catch the water from the wet olothess'as.-.
the appended claims. For example, the holder may be made with stationary. standards 'at one end'of the truck instead of intermediate its ends and it may be made Withany number of blgllOlClBlS instead'ofthe It may be set in a truck body they are pulled out of the washing machine as shown or in any other appropriate support. The holder. may also be made of a single construction instead of double. and
with a compartment for'conta-ining a supply of bags alongside thereof."
iHavingthfus'fully described my said-inyeirtion, whatllclaiin-as. new and desire to secure by Letters Patent; is

2'. A support for laundry bags comprisingfixed" standards, pivoted standards adjacent said fixedlstaiidards movableiby gravity into positiontocooperate with'tlie fixed standai'ds, iii-supporting a laundry bag" in open and suspended position, and a shelf inov-, ably connected to said pivoted standard in position to support the bottoiii'oftlie la-uiidry b'a'g, substantially as set'forth:

Ii'lIWltHeSS whereof, I have hereunto setn'iyhand and seal at Indianapolis, Indiana, this 12th dayofJanuary, A. D. nineteen hundred and twenty-five.
