COLLAPSIBLE TUBE.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, \VrLmAw C. HUNTOON. Jr.. a citizen of the United States, residing at East Greenwich, in the county of Kent and State of Rhode Island. have invented new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Tubes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new anduseful improvements in captive tops for collapsible tubes, and the primary object thereof is to provide improved means for locating and anchoring the means which hingedly and rotatably connects the cap to the tube,
so as to prevent bodily rotation of such means during screwing and unscrewing of the cap, in moving the latter to closed and open positions.
A further object of the invention is to" provide means for the purpose just described.

A collar 5. is formed on the neck and disposed spaced above the top of the skirt 2, to form a groove 6.
The means for hingedly and rotatably connecting the cap 7 to the tube consists of a piece of wire formed at one end with a loop 8, loosely disposed in the groove 6, 'formed in the periphery of the neck. The opposite end of the wire is coiled at 10, and thence extended toward the'tube and formed at its extremity with an eye 11. A teat or nub 12 is struck-up from the skirt 2, and is disposed so as to locate the. loop 8, in its proper posi tion, the teat receiving the eye 11, thereover, so as to anchor the wire member to the skirt, and to dispose the socket afforded by the coils 10, in position, as now to be described.
A cap 7 is formed-with .a downwardly flared collar 13, forming a groove 14 in con junction with the undcrt'ace of the head or top of the cap, in which groove the central portion 15, of a second piece of wire is coni'ormably received. The ends of the second piece of wire are crossed at 16, and are formed with inturned extremities 17, which latter project loosely into the socket afforded by the coils 10, of the first wire member. It will now be seen that the coils 10, are posit oned relatively to the neck of the tube so that upon inward swinging of the cap, about the coils, the cap will be properly positioned so as to have its threads register with the threads of the neck by and upon rotation of the cap. In addition, the teat 12, causes the coils 10. to be held against the skirt 2 of the neck and be ac'ord ngly firmly supported on the skirt, so that the extremities 17, of the wire member of the cap 7, are afforded fixed knuckles in which te -swing or have pivotal movement. In addition, the wire member engaged with the tube neck is held against rotary movement about the latter, so that the cap only can be turned in threading and unthreading same on and from the neck.
Due to the fixed holding of the coils 10 on the. base of the neck, thecap is always held in its correct relation to the neck threads when swung to engage the latter, the cap being held against oscillations at right an gles to the tube axis thereby rendering it easier to mesh the cap and neck threads. and also preventing bending of'the part 10 or distortion thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letone end coiled about. the neck and located in the groove and having its other end extended outwardly from the neck and formed with a series of coils-seated on the skirt and having the extremity of said other end coiled to form an eye, a teat struck-up from the skirt and received in the eye to hold the wire member against rotation and against the 1 skirt, a cap having a circular groove, and a second wire member having its central portion conformably received the cap and having its ends crossed and then extended inwardly and freely received in the opposite ends of the series of coils of the first wire member.

In combination with a collapsible tube in the groove of having aneck and y a-ggroove thereima wire member having one end curved aboutthe neck and dlsposed 1n sald groove andhaving its oppositeend formed with'a series' of coils and terminating in an eye, means carried by the tube and engaged in the eye to secure the coils against, the neck at the base thereof, a cap having a groove and a second wire member having its central part loosely arranged in the cap groove and its ends crossed and formed .with inturnedparts loosely engaged in the opposite ends of the coils.

In combination with a collapsible tube having a neck with a groove therein, amenimeans extending through the eye to anchor the same and therewith the coils to the base of the neck, a cap, and a wire loosely engaged about the cap andhaving intiirned terminals which pivotally engage in the op-- posite ends of the series of coils.
5.' In combination with a collapsible tube,
, a wire engaged about the neck of the tube and having coils seated on the base of the neck of the tube, and an anchoring part, means engaging the anchoring part to hold the wire against rotation and to hold the coils against the base of the neck, a cap, and a wire loosely engaged about the cap and having parts engaged with the coils to enable the second wire to have pivotal movement relative to the coils.
6. In a container having a neck and a cap therefor, a pivot-forming member at the base of the neck, means to fixedly hold said member onto the base of the neck and against movement, and means independent of said member and engaging said cap topermit thelatter to rotate,'said last named means being pivotally' connected to the pivot-forming member whereby the latter provides a fixed point on the neck and about which the said last named means and therewith the cap may swing.
