Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADNA B. KELLOGG, OF OAKLAND, OREGON.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 157,204, dated November 24, 1874; application filed August 1, 1874.
To all whom it may concern! Beit known that I, AENA B. KELLOGG, of Oakland, in the county of Douglas and State of Oregon, have invented a new and Improved Plow, of which the following is a specica` Similar letters of reference indicate corre# sponding parts.
A represents the point; B, the land-side; C, the share on the land-side along the hinder part, `to run under the land in advance of the next furrow, for cutting the earth, roots, &c., which the mold-board share D cannot reach. This point A, land-side B, and share C are all constructed ont of one piece of flat sheet metal cut out in the form required, and bent on the lines E F, as required. G represents the colter, which is bolted or welded ou the landside between it and the frame piece H, being made fast at its lower end and running to a point at its upper end and inclining toward the right a little to one side, so as not to form an angle with the beam, by which the choking with Weeds, grass, Ste., in the angle between the colter and the beam, to which the common plow is subject, is avoided. I represents the re-enforcing point, which is to be bolted on or slipped on over the original point when the latter is Worn out, said point I being merely laid upon the top of the old point and bolted at J by the same bolt which is used to attach the share D. K represents the re-enforcing land-side and share to be bolted on when the original land-side B and share C are worn out. They can be riveted onto the old land-side B and bolted to the handle. The point I Will overlap the front end of the re-enforcing landside K. L represents the mold-board.
The formation of the land-side bar, horizontal cutter, and point from a single plate or blank of metal is more fully represented in Fig. 5 of the drawing. The vertical colter G is, in the present instance, also formed in one piece with the land-side bar, but this is not an essential feature, as it may be formed separately and secured in place by welding or otherwise.
The formation of the land-side bar, horizontal cutter, and point from a single plate or blank of metal is more fully represented in Fig. 5 of the drawing. The vertical colter Gr is, in the present instance, also formed in one piece with the land-side bar; but this isnot an essential feature, as it may be formed separately, and seamed in place by welding or otherwise.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The land-side bar B, horizontal cutter O, and point A, formed of a single plate or blank of metal, as and for the purpose described.
ADNA B. KELLOGG.
