Description

J. H. w. PFLUEGER TELEPHONE COVER Filed A'iBril 12. 1925 Patented Feb. 2, 1926.
JOHN H. WILLIAM PFLUEGER, F COVINGTON, KENTUCKY.
TELEPHONE COVER.
Application filed April 12, 1923. Serial No. 631,733.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. WILLIAM PFLUEGER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Covington, in the county of Kenton and State of Kentucky, have invented a certain new and useful Telephone Cover, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference be ng had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a cover for the mouth-piece of a telephone. As furnished by the telephone companies, the transmitter mouth-piece is open to, receive dust and germs and thus, especially Where used in a public booth, becomes unsanitary and a menace to the health of the user. The principal objectof this invention is to provide a suitable cover for the transmitter mouthpiece which may be attached and removed and which is of simple and inexpensive construction.
A further object of this invention is to provide a cover of the type mentioned 2 which is adapted to carry advertising matter.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective of a telephone transmitter provided with one of my new covers;
Figure 2 is a front View of the cover;
Figure 3 is a rear view of the same.
The numeral 1 indicates a sheet or plate constructed of any suitable material, such for instance as celluloid or heavy paper, and of a size suflicient to cover the entire open end of the transmitter mouth-piece 2 and to overlap the same circumferentially. The plate 1 is provided with a number of fingers 3, of which I prefer three, one to engage at the top and one at each of the sides of the mouth-piece. These fingers are preferably formed merely by V-shaped slits in the plate, the included points being bent backwardly. These fingers engage the edge of the mouth-piece when the plate is merely placed against the front of the mouth-piece and drawn downwardly and hold the cover in place thereon. The plate 1 may also, although not necessarily, be provided with a small central opening 4:.
The nature and use of the invention will be understood from the foregoing description. As will be seen, the front of the cover provided a suitable surface for advertising or other printed matter, and when the cover is in place on the transmitter mouth-piece, the opening of the latter is entirely shielded. and thus the user is not subject to the danger of any infection which may previously have been deposited therein, and the possibility of the user infecting the same is also eliminated. In practice, it Will be understood that a supply of such covers may be available at any public booth so that each user may be provided with a new and entirely sanitary cover.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A cover for a telephone mouthpiece comprising a plate, the face of said plate being provided with a series of substantially V- shaped slits to form three radial fingers, twoof which are diametrically opposite each other and the third spaced between said two so that when the said fingers are bent out of the plane of said plate they are adapted to engage at the top and sides of said mouthpiece to secure the plate thereon.
