city, in the county ofKings and State of New York, has invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Garments, of which the following is a specificatiom This inventlon relates to an lmprovement in womens wearing apparel, and more particularly, is directed to a fur outer garment of novel construction which. may be worn either as a coat or jacket as desired.

Womens fur garments are made either in the form of three quarter or full length coats, or jackets and in order that the wearer may be suitably rovided for various climatic conditions uring the various seasons of the year, and to permit various modes of dress, it has been found desirable for the wearer to have one of each of such garments.

An object of the invention is to provide a single garment of the character descrlb'ed formed of detachable members which when assembled simulate a single-piece garment and which may be easily converted and selectively used either as a jacket or coat as desired. o

A further object of the 1nvent1on 15 to provide a garment of the character described :0 which is s1m le in construction, neat in appearance, re atively inexpensive to manufacture and practical and efiicient to a high degree for the purpose described.

Other objects of this invention will in part 5 be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out. 7

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangement of parts 'WhlCh will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter descrlbed and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.

Referring in detail to the drawing, 10 denotes a fur garment embodying the inventron which 1s constructed to simulate a onep1ece coat. The garment 10 comprises a acket or short coat which may have the usual sleeves 11 and a collar 11", and a separable skirt 12 which is secured by its up er edge portion or tongue 12 to the lower portlon 11 of thejacket 11 by any suitab e qu1c1k detachable means, such as snap fasten ers The coat 10 may also be provided with any well known front closure means includin buttons 14 or the like. The jacket 11 and sk1 rt 12 each may have fur or the like material on their exterior sides 11, 12 respectively, and linings 15, 16 respectively, constructed m'the well known manner may be provided on the interior sides of said jacket and skirt.

The jacket portion 11 is referably made to have a lacket or fent 17 or receiving the skirt portlon 12 between edge fla s 11 and 15' of the exterior material 11 an linin 15 respecti vely as shown in Figs. 2, 3 an 5. Thus, the means for detachably securing the slnrt 12 to the jacket 11 are com letel hidden from view by being secure on e inter or sides 18, 19 of the flaps 11, and 15, and the correspondingsides 20, 21 of skirt portlon 12", sald sides being formed of a remforcm material extending from the jacket and s 'rt structure as shown in Figs. ,2, 15 are preferably turned in as at 11' and 15 so that the remforcing material does not show when the garment is in use.

Snap fastenin 13 may be arranged in a single row, but ouble rows as shown in the drawing are preferably provided to uniforml{ and substantially hang the skirt 12 from t 0 jacket.

When it is desired to use the invention as a coat, the upper portion 12 of the skirt 12 is inserted up into the placket 17 between the flaps 11' and 15' as shown in Fig. 8 and manner and the flaps 11 and 15 may be secured together by the fastening as shown in Fig. 4.

It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.

As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as vari ous changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or show'n in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A convertible garment of the character described comprising a jacket having a lining, a skirt, reinforcing means incorporated within the garment structure, a placket formed by the edge portions of the exterior material of the jacket, and the linin for receiving the upper edge of the skirt, said means extending into said placket, and fasteners on the portions of sa1d means in said described comprising a jacket having a lining, and skirt arran ed to be detachably se cured to the jacket or converting same into a coat, a placket formed along the lower edge portions of the jacket between the outer material of the jacket and the lining for receiving the upper edge portion of the skirt, a plurality of rows of fastening members mounted on the interior side of the placket and corresponding rows of fastening members on the said edge of the skirt portion for engaging with the first men'- tioned fastening members, said jacket and skirt when assembled simulatin a single piece garment as viewed from eit er the interior or exterior side thereof.

A garment adapted -to be selectively converted into a coat or jacket comprisin a jacket havin a lining, a skirt, a placket formed by t e edge portions of the outer material of the jacket and the lining for re ceiving the upper edge of the skirt, and means on the jacket and lining portions of the 1placket for detachably securing the skirt to t e jacket, said means constructed to interlock for holding the placke't closed when the skirt is detached.
