Application filed Hay 2i),
Be it known that I, Come BAILEY;
' a citizen of the United States, residing at details and Lansing, county of 'Ingham, State of Michigan, fhave invented certain'new and useful Improvements in Centrifugal Governors for Gasoline Engines, of 1s a speclficatlon.
This inventlon' relates to improvementsin which the following centrifugal governors for gasoline engines- Q'The main'object of the invention is to provide an 'elfective structure which can be conveniently adjusted to vary the speed when the engine is running.
'Further objects, and Ob]60l'.S relating to economies of construction and operation will definitely appear from the claims.
detailed description to follow.
The objects of the invention are accom-' "plished by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the A structure which is a preferred emhodi ment of the invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which: 4
' Fig. 'I is'adetail longitudinal sectional view through a governor embodyin the features of my invention, taken on t e irregulas' line 1:-1 of Figs. II. and III. p
,ig -II is a. I detail end elevationview, somewhat 'enl'arged,'of my improved governor, the -connecti ng-rod being broken Fig. III is an enlarged detaillongitudinal sectional view through the adjusting means, taken on line 3-3 of Fig. II.
In theadrawing, the sectional'views. are
taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines and similar numerals of reference refer to simi-v jlar parts throughout the several views.
' shell or housing. 2 is the The parts of the drawing will be considered by their numbers. 1 is the governor vernor, shaft.
.pgir o weights 6 are fulcrumed at 7 and aring against the collar 9 of the tension speeds. I
3 Having thus described the invention, what Letters Patent is-:.
192a. swarm. 562,490. C
is the governor lever fulcrumed at 12 and with the end 11' bearing upon thrust collar 13., 14 is the adjustable tension spring actingagainst the thrust collar and seated at the outer end in the adjusting cap 15. The adjusting cap 15 fits'a bearing 15 in the hublike end of easing 1. The cap 15 has an oblique spiral groove 16 in its periphery. The adjusting cap is retained in position by the pointed screw 17, the point 18 of which engages and projects through the easing into the said spiral groove 16.
.The adjusting cap is adjustable by the lever 19 which has a rojecting arm 20 overhanging the hub an containm'g a radially disposed-spring. pin 21, the contact end of .which is disposed to engage the notched segment 22 formed integral -on the outside of,
the hub of the casing. 23 is an oil cup for introducing lubricant.
It will be readily understood that by adjustin the lever 19 the tension on the spring 14 w' be varied and the governor thus adjusted to different resistances and difierent periphery of said cap, a lever for adjustin the said cap, a spring pin carried by sai lever, and a notched segment on said hub the point engaging the said groove in the extension and integral therewith yieldingly engaged by said spring pin, coacting as specified.
' 2. The combination of a centrifugal governor, asuitable casing therefor with an axially projectin hub containin a bearing surface, an a justablecap wit a spiral groove notch in the periphery embracing the governor spindle adapted to and snplever, and a notched segment on said hub ported in said hearing, a governor spring extension yieldingly engaged by said spring on the said spindle with its outer end seated pin, coacting as specified. 31 in said cap, a pointed screw pin in said hub In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my 5 the point engaging the said groove in the hand and seal.
periphery of said cap, a lever for adjusting the said cap, a spring pin carried hysaid CURTIS L. BAILEY. [LS-1.
