UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
. ANTO INE MUGUET, OF ILE ST.-DENIS, FRANCE.
APPARATUS FOR APPLYING CURATIVE TREATMENT WITH A RADIOACTIVE SUBSTANCE.
Application filed June 28, 1922. Serial No. 571,581.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTOINE MUGUET, a
citizen of the Republic of France, and resi-.
dent of A lIle st-Denis, Seine, France, 5 have invented certain new and useful Apparatus for Applying Curative Treatment with a Radioactive Substance, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates to improved apparatus for applying curative treatment with a radioactive substance and has for its object to allow the radioactive charge to be easily removed and also to allow great uniformity of treatment.
According to this invention such apparatus is composed of one or more removable metal elements containing a radioactive charge and a casing surrounding the elements which is closed at one end by a member which may terminate in a point.
The closing member may be aiiixed to the casing in any suitable manner; for example it may be brazed or soldered thereto or so that it is easily removable therefrom. WVhile such member preferably terminates in a needle point it may be merely a stopper whose projecting end is rounded.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which A is a tube or tubes containing the radioactive charge, B is a casing surrounding the tube or tubes closed at one end with a pointed member 0 aiiixed to casing B by brazing or any other method which allows the tube or tubes A to be removed from casing B when desired.
The end of easing B remote from C may if desired be provided with flats not illustrated in the drawing which allows the apparatus to be held by pincer-s or with an eye D through which a thread can be passed in order that the needle can easily be withdrawn from the part threaded.
The parts A, B and C together form an apparatus from which the active charge or members a e removable and which can be known with exact-itude and is evenly distributed. The active charge may be radium, mesothorium or any other radioactive substance.
The charge containing elements maybe formed of platinum, gold or other suitable metal.
It is obvious that the relative sizes of the parts can be varied as may be necessary while the point C may be replaced by a stopper whose projecting end may be rounded.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:
A device of the character described comprising an elongated tubular vial contain ing a radioactive substance, an outer metallic casing enclosing said vial, said casing being open at one end and closed at the other and provided with an opening at the closed end for the reception of a withdrawing element and a pointed needle having a butt end of suflicient size to close the open end of the casing and provided, at said butt end,
with a reduced extremity adapted to fit within the casing, said needle being free to be readily removed from the casil'ig.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto signed. my name this 12th day of June, 1922.
ANTOINE MUGUET.
