Description
Dec; 1925 H. A. SCHULKE GAME 0R PUZZLE Filed Feb. 24, 1925 Patented Dec. 15, 1925. 7
UNITED .r ATEN'l" QFFl'QE.
HENRY A. SCHULKE, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
GAME on PUZZLE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY A. SoHULKs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Games or Puzzles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in games or puzzles having for an object the provision of a device of this character which may be employed as a puzzle or as a game of chance.
It is likewise an object to provide a device of this character comprising a minimum number of parts which may be comparatively inexpensively manufactured and whose operation is extremely simple.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part pointed out hereinafter.
In order that the invention and its mode of operation may be readily understood by those skilled in the art, I have in the accompanying illustrative drawings and detailed description thereof pointed out the preferred embodiment of the same.
Figure l is a plan view of the game or puzzle;
Figure 2 is an edge view; and
Figure 3 is a fragmentary plan view showing the marine in which the elements may be shifted to aline certain figures.
Similar characters of reference designate similar parts throughout.
This game or puzzle comprises a pair of spaced discs 1 and 2, which are preferably constructed of card board or similar material and have arranged thereon figures or pictures as desired. While these members 1 and 2 may be of any desired configuration I have shown them in the accompanying): drawings as being polygonal. The base member or lower disc 1 is centrally apertured for the reception of a rivet or other type of fastener 3 while the upper member or rotatable disc 2. is provided with centrally arranged relatively right angular crossed slots a, the point of intersection of these slots being in the center of the rotatable disc 2 and adapted to receive the fastener or pin 3 whereby the discs are interconnected. To provide for free rotation of the top member 2 I arrange between the discs a spacing member 5 as shown in Figure 2.
illustration as shown in Figure .L.
The rotatable member or top disc '2 is provided with a set of spaced openings 6 which are preferably thoughnot necessarily diamond shaped in configuration. Arranged upon the top disc or rotatable memoer .3 and terminating at the walls '7 of the diamond shaped openings is a set of parti 'lly completed figures or pictures 8. These portions or parts 8 are designed for alinement with the second portion 9 of the picture or 1 Preferably only one of these illustrations or pictures will be completed at time. As shown in Figure 1, each portion of an illustration or picture carried by the rotatable card or disc will bears number as shown at 10, this arrangement permitting use of the device as a game of chance. hen using the device as a game of chance the top disc' or member 2 will be rapidly rotated with respect to the base member 1 and the person effecting rotation will be credited with the number of points indicated by the figure or picture completed. Obviously a certain number of points will be decided upon as comprising a winning score and the device will be successively operated by participants until such score is reached by one of them.
As a puzzle, the top or front member 2 will be slowly rotated to complete any of the numerous pictures, which in this instance are taken from Mother Goose rhymes, and as such may be used as an educational means for small children. To further broaden the field of use for this device the rotatable 0r movable disc 2 is slotted as previously stated so as to permit relative radial shifting as indicated in Figure 3. Through such a construction I can use practically the entire surface of each disc.
Obviously certain changes in the minor details of construction may be resorted toy and such of these changes as may fall within the scope of the appended claims, I consider within the spirit of my invention.
I claim 1. A device of the character described, comprising a pair of inter-connected relatively rotatable members, one member having openings and carrying portions of pictures on its surface, portions of pietures carried by the other member and singularly alinable with the portion on the other member to complete a picture, said members being relatively shiftable circumferentially or radially to complete certain pictures.
2. A device of the character described comprising a base disk having a central opening, a top disk having crossed slots centrally arranged, a vfastener extending through the opening and slots, said top disk having spaced openings and portions of pietures or the like carried by the disks and alinable through the openings to complete a picture.
3. A device 01 the character described, comprising a base disk, at to disk, means interconnecting the disks to permit relative radial and circumferential shifting, said top disk having relatively large openings, and portions of illustrations carried by the two disks and alinable to complete an illustration.
4. A device of the character described comprising a base disk, a top disk identical in size and configuration to the base disk and rotatably fixed thereto, said top disk having a relatively large opening, portions of designs arranged about and terminating at movable circumferentially and radially to reflect formation of a complete design.
A device of the character described comprising, a base disk having a central pivot member, a top disk identical to the base disk in size and configuration, said top disk having radial slots adapted to receive the pivot pin and interconnect the disks, said top disk having a plurality of relatively large openings, portions of designs ar ranged about and terminating at the Walls of said openings, and the remaining portions of the designs being carried by the base disk to be exposed through openings, said base and top disks being relatively movable circumferentially and radially to eliect formation of complete designs.
In testimony whereof, I my signature HENRY A. SGHULKE.
