O. JOH NE INKING APPARATUS FOR PLATEN PRESSES` Fired Nov. 25, 1924 el 18 7 l W f Patented Dec. S, 192.5.
UNITED STATES OTTO JOI-INE, OF BAUTZEN, GERMANY.
INKING APPARATUS FOB' PLATEN PRESSES.
Application led November 25, 1924. Serial No. 752,226.
To all whom #may concem: y
lBe 1t known that l, Otr'ro JOHNn, a citizen "of Germany, residing at aut/.em Germany,
` with inking mechanism composed of rollers.
In machines of this ty ie, which have been used hitherto, the inlnng rollers circulate around the base plate or return idle over the same so that the rollers are continuously` in movement and come in contact with the ink cylinder only for a very short time ior talrlrigf and spreading` inleg In other machines of similar type the rollers` move' over the 'platen once downwardly and then upwardly. In this case complete inking mechanisms each consisting of an ink box, an ink box cylinder, spreading rollers and inking rolljli, are arranged one above and the other below the machine. An inconvenience resulting from this arrangement is that the .inking of the inlring rollers above the macliinefis different from the inking below the machine when the inking mechanisms are not adjusted quite uniformly. In some manhin'es of known type the inling rollers are are ot coifn'paratively small diameter so that they rotate on the form several times, wheretroln an irregular inking of the ,form re- According to the invention the length o'l`: the circumference ot the inking rollers is at least equal to the height ot the type form. They are conducted over the form alternatingly once from the lower end to the upper end and then from the upper end to the lower end, so that, prior to each printing operation, they rotate once slowly on the torni. @ne inlring apparatus is arranged, 'divided into two parts, on the platen press in such a manner that one large inllring roller is situated above and another one below the form. The inlr is supplied to these twofiulring rollers Vfrom one and the saine inl; bon. The inlr is transmitted from the in k Ibor` cylinder to the distributing yrollers by means of two elevator cylinders .which den liver inflr alternately to the distributing roller arranged above the form and to the distributing roller arranged below the form.
An embodiment of the invention is diagrammatically shown, by way of example, in the figure of the accompanying drawing.
The inlring rollers 1 and 2 are moved. along the form, by convenient mechanisms known per se, downwardly and then upwardly after every printing operation ot the platen 17. Above and below the form 3 ink cylinders 4l and 5 are arranged to which the ink is supplied from the ink box cylinder 8 through the intermediary of the elevator cylinders G and 7 by the distributing rollers 9, 11, 13, 15 and 10, 12, 14, 16. The elevator cylinders 6 and 7 are alter-- natingly brought in contact with the ink box cylinder 8. During the printing operation the inking rollers 1 and 2 are either in contact with the inlr cylinder l above the form or with the ink cylinder 5 below the form,
The platen is operated as usual from the driving shaft 18 by means of toothed wheel 19 and connecting rod 20.
I claim: e
1. An inking apparatus for platen presses comprising in combination an ink cylinder above the form of the press, an ink cylinder below the form, and two inl;- ing rollers oscillating between said two inlr cylinders in such a manner that they roll prior to every printing operation once over the form and ink the same completely by one single rotation.
2. An inking apparatus tor platen presses comprising in combination an inlr cylinder above the form of the press, an ink cylinder below the form, two inlring rollers oscillating between said two ink cylinders, in such a manner that they roll prior to every printing operation once over the orinandinh the same completely by one single rotation. one ink box and one inlr bor: cylinder tor the two ink cylinders.
an hiking apparatus tor platen presses comprising ineombination an ink cylinder above the' form of the press, an inlr cylinder below the form, two inking rollers oscillatp ing betweensaid two ink cylinders in such a manner that they roll prior to every printing operation once over the form and ink the saine completely by one single rotation, en ink distributing roller above the form, an ink distributing roller below the form, an ink box and an ink box roller for the two ink distributing rollers and ltwo ele- Vatoi cylinders for supplying ink alte?- nately t0 the one and to the other distribut ing roller.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my neme to this specification.
OTTO JOHN E.
