G- C. WISMER PIANO GLIDE Filed Dec. 13. 1924 INVENTOR 8&1?
" Gear e6. me)" Patented Nov. 24, 1925.
PATENT QFFEQE.
GEORGE C. WISMER, OF SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA.
PIANO GLIDE.
Application filed December 13, 1924. Serial No. 755,765.
T 0 aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE G. lVrsrrnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Santa Barbara, in the county of Santa Barbara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Piano Glides, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in piano glides and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character whereby a piano may be shifted from one position to another without removing the glides and at the same time without injury to the floor or floor coveranother object of the invention is to provide a device of this general character of ahollow type which adds materially to the resonant tone of the instrument.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device ofthis general character comprising a plurality of separable parts which, when unassembled, is of material advantage in shipping.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved piano glide whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view taken through a glide constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention, a coacting caster being shown in elevation;
Figure 2 is a view in top plan of my improved glide as herein disclosed.
As herein disclosed, my improved glide comprises a base or bottom member 1 preferably of polished hard wood and which has its marginal ortion received within an intern l r t 2 provid d n a wall or shell 3 said wall or shell 3 being substantially in the form of a truncated cone.
The shell or wall 3 may be made of wood, glass, metal, or any material preferred.
A metal cup 0 fits within the upper portion of the central opening defined by the wall or shell 3 and has its upper margin defined by an outwardly and downwardly curved flanged at which snugly engages or fits the upper edge of the shell or wall 8. Disposed through the central part of the cup member C is the screw 5 which also engages the central part of the base or bottom member 1 wherebythe variousmembers comprised in'my improved glide are effectively maintained in requisite assembled relation yet may be readily separated when preferred and particularly to facilitate shipping. It is to be understood that a plurality of cup members 0 may be telescopically engaged or nested as is also true of the plurality of walls or shells 3.
A cup member G is adapted to receive a supporting caster or the like of a piano and said member 0 is of a sufficient depth to readily permit the piano to be moved from one location to another without removing the glide. It is also to be understood that one of my improved glides is adapted to be employed in connection with each caster or the like of the instrument.
My improved glide is of a hollow type and the cup member C at its upper portion is provided with a series of circumferentially and equi-distantly spaced openings 6 in communication with the interior of the glide, such arrangement and construction adding materially to the resonant tone of the instrument.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a piano glide constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as herecup member, base and shell in assembled re inafter claimed. lation, said cup member being provided 10 I claim With openings in communication with the A device of the class described comprisinterior of the device.
ing a base member, a shell restingthereon, In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my a cup member supported by the upper end signature.
of the shell, and means for connecting the cup member to the base member to hold the GEORGE O. lVISMER.
