Description
UNITED YS'limitare PATENT OFFICE.
EEAsTUs E lwnve, 0E ALBANY, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHAMBER TOILET-CASES..
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,2 13, dated October 27, 1874 application filed September 12, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERAsTUs EWTNG, of the city and county of Albany, State of New York, have invented certain useful Improvements in Chamber Toilet-Gases; and I do hereby declare thatthe following is a description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specication, in which- Figurel is a perspective view of the toiletcase, illustrating the improvements in the same when the parts are opened fout. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same when closed. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation of the same. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the same.
My invention relates to that class of toiletcases combining a commode, washing facilities, towel-rack, and other devices for use in a chamber or room 5 and consists in the hereinafter-described parts, combined and arranged in such a manner that the case may, when not in use, present a neat and compact ar ticle, capable of being opened out, in its several parts, for several uses incidental to chamber purposes, byany person prior to an appearance in the family. p
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it in reference to the drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, the same letters indicating like parts.
In the drawings, A A, representing the case or cabinet, may be made with any desired form of outer appearance and ornamentation, and of wood or any other proper material. Made in one side of .the said case, in the top portion of the same, is a water-tank, B, provided with a cover, b, capable of being raised. a is a jointed faucet, connectingv with the said water-tank, and capable of being swung out from the case. G is a door, hinged to the said water-tank side of the case, and toward the rear of the same. Made secure to the said door is the Wash-case D, consisting of the segmental wall c, provided Witha door, c1, inclosing the wash-bowl d inits upper portion, and affording room for a slop-water vessel, d', in its lower portion.
'Ihe said door C being thus placed, and carrying the wash-case D and its adjuncts, is capable of transferring the same to within the case or cabinet A when the door is swung shut, and out from the same when .it is opened, while the water-tank and faucet may be employed to supply the wash-bowl with water as may be required.
Made with the opposite side of the said case A is a second door, E, hinged in a manner similar to door G.y Made with, or secured to, the said door is the commode-case F, provided with a door, e, and a seat, e1, inclosing a bowl, pan, bucket, e2, or equivalent vessel, to be used withl the seat as a commode. The said door, with its adjuncts, is capable of being closed into the ease A, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 8, when the commode-case andits vessel will be completely hidden. Secured to the side ofthe case Within, and directlyr over the seat e when closed in, is a stationary sealing-cover, f, which may have its edges or lower surface packed with rubber or felt cloth, to operate as a packing, to
tightly close the commode-case when turned within the case A, as shownin Figs. 2 and 3.
If desired, an earth box may be provided, with suitable devices for supplying the vessel in the commode-case with earth.
In the front of the case A is made a shallow chamber, g, closed by the door G, to which door is secured the towel-rack g', from which towels may be suspended.
H is a drawer, made in the upper portion of the case A. I is a mirror, supported in a swinging manner from proper standards h h. In cheaper articles I would dispense with the said mirror. J J are boxes for holding any articles necessary to be used for toilet purposes, which boxes may also be dispensed with in cheap articles.
By the improvements in this invention a single case may be made to supply all the articles for accommodation of a private toilet, and conveniences forcomfortable and neat operations, while all escape of odors to the room, or from the commode Vto the other parts, is prevented.
Having described my invention, what I 2.- In combination with the case A and claim, undv desire to seculjeby Letters Patent, the commode-case F, carried by the dooi` E, is-` the sealing-cover f, substantially as und for l. In combination With the case A, the Wathe purpose set forth. ter-tank B, provided with the faucet a, und ERASTUS EWING. the Wash-case D, holding the Vesselor vessels v -f'ituesses:
d d carried by the side door C, substantially J. OWEN MOORE, as und for the purpose set forth. Y ALEX. SELKIRK.
