Description

C. J. KELLEY COLLAR BUTTON Filed July 25, 1924 Patented Oct. 20, 1925.
UNITED STATES CLARENCE a. KELLEY, or KALIsrELL, MONTANA.
COLLAR BUTTON.
Application filed July 25, 1924. Serial No. 728,124.
To all whom it may concern: a I
Be it known that I, CLARENCEJ. KELLEY a citizen of the United States, residing at Kalispell, in the county of Flathead and State of Montana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Collar Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in collar buttons. 1
It is an object of this invention to pro vide an improved collar button which may be inserted in the button hole in the neck band of a shirt in either of a plurality of positions and retained therein.
It is another object of the invention to provide an improved collar button which may be inserted in a button hole and retained therein in such a position that the engaging stud will be disposed inthat part of the button hole remote from the end of the neck band.
Another object of the invention is to provide a collar button which may be inserted in a button hole or neck band and retained in such a position that the engaging stud will be in that portion of the button hole adjacent to the free end of the neck band.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a collar button adapted to engage a button hole of a neck band and to be so retained that the engaging stud will be disposed beyond the free end of such neck band.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a collar button capable of engaging a button hole of a neck band of a shirt in either of a plurality of positions so that the size of the neck band may be varied upon the adjacent ends of said neck band becoming engaged with such collar button.
lVith the foregoing objects in view and further objects which will be made manifest in the following detailed description and specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference is had to theaccompanying drawing for illustrated. embodiment of the preferred form herein.
Fig. 1, is a partial perspective view of the upper portion of a shirt showing the improved collar button applied in one position.
. Fig. 2,1's a similar view to Fig. 1, showing the collar button applied in another position.
Fig. 3, is a similar view, showing the improved collar button applied in a third position.
Fig. 4, is a top view taken as looking form, having a large rounded end 11, and a' smallfrounded end 12, and the sides 13,.
being convergent substantially as shown. Integral with the base plate 10, are a pair of studs, one of which, as at 14, is very short and has a head 15. The other stud has a shank 16, substantially the length of that on the ordinary collar button and is provided with a circular head 17 As is shown in Figures 1 to 3 inclusive, the collar button may be applied to the neck band 20, of the shirt S, in either of a plurality of positions. In Fig. 1, the collar button is shown as applied, such that the length of the neck band 20, may be slightly shortened in respect to the wearers neck. This is accomplished by inserting the shanks 14 and 16 through the button hole B, with the smaller shank 14, the length substantially equal to the length of the button hole will be accordingly retained in that end of the button hole B, remote from thefree end of the band 20. V
Fig. 2, the collar button is applied such that the smaller shank 14, is adjacent to that end of the button hole B, remote from the free end of the band 20, and the longer shank 16 is retained in the end of the button hole adjacent to the opposite end of the band 20, indicated at 21. This position disposes the engaging stud 16, for engaging the end 21, when the neck band 20, properly fits the wearer.
When the neck band 20, is a little small for the wearer, the collar button may be mounted as shown in Fig. 3, with the small shank 14, engaging the button hole B. and long shank 16, being disposed beyond the end of the band 20, capable of engaging the button hole B.
From the above, it is seen, that a collar button is provided having a. base plate and a pair of studs integral therewith, capable of engaging a button hole in either of. a
plurality of positions, thereby providing an adjustment for the collar.
It is to be understood that the accompanying drawing and above description have been employed for illustrative purposes only and that various changes in the details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
hat I claim is:
1. A collar button comprising a flat plate, and a pair of studs projecting from one face of said plate and being positioned inwardly from the edges thereof, one of said studs being shorter than the other.
2. A collar button comprising a fiat plate, and a pair of studs projecting from one face of said plate and being positioned inwardly from the edges thereof, one of said studs being shorter than the other, said studs being provided with flattened heads.
3. A collar button comprising a plate having tapered longitudinal edges and rounded ends, and studs projecting from only one face thereof, said studs being positioned inwardly from the edges of said plate.
4. A collar button comprising a plate having tapered longitudinal edges and rounded ends, and studs projecting from only one face thereof, said studs being positioned inwardly from the edges of said plate, and being two in number, one of said studsbeing shorter than the other.
5. A collar button comprising a plate having tapered longitudinal edges and rounded ends, and studs projecting from only one face thereof, said studs being positioned inwardly from the edges of said plate, and being two in number, one of said studs be ing shorter than the other, both of said studs being provided with flattened heads.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
CLARENCE J. KELLEY.
