A[TNrrnn STATES PATENT' OFFICE.
WILLIAMS'IEINHEUER, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO WIL- LIAM RUHL 8D CO., OF NEW YORK CITY.
IMPROVEMENT IN EAR-RINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,682, dated October 6, 1874; application tiled July 23, 18,74.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM STEINHEUER, of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Combined Ear-Drop and Ear- Rin g, oi'Which the following is a specification Figure l is a side view of my combined drop and ear-ring, showing it opened. Fig.
2 is a side view of the same, showing it closed.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
The object of this invention is to produce in one article of simple construction the peculiarities and purposes of an ear-rin g and of an ear-drop, and to provide at the same time su-v perior means for applying the same to the ear. Ear-rings, as heretofore made, are distinct from the ear-drops, and are separate articles In the drawing, the letters A A' A" represent an ear-drop of suitable design and material. B is a hook, hinged at one end to the upper part of the ear-drop, While its other end is made into a sharp point and perforated, as is clearly shown in Fig. 1. C is another smaller hook secured to the upper part of the ear-drop A.
For application, the point of the hook B is put through the lobe of the ear, and then the hook C is caused to enter the aperture in the end of B, to bring the parts into the position shown in Fig. 2. The hook B will thus serve the purpose of the ordinary ear-ring, holding the drop suspended from the ear, while it will also allow the drop to vibrate freely in either Vdirection on the two ends of the hook B. The
pointed end of the hook B facilitates its introduction through the lobe of the ear. The device may, if desired, be worn open, as in Fig. 1.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the ear-drop A A All with the hooks B and C, the hook 'B having a pointed perforated end, substantially as described.
