J'osn'r'n nanny 000K, or Patrician, nsmuckrw PLANT PROTECTOR.
AppIication fiIed April 10, 1925. Serial No. 22,171.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Josnrn H. 00011, a
- citizen of the United States, residing at Paducah, in the county of McCracken and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Plant Protector, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to plant protectors to be employed for covering young plants to protect the plants against damage by frost during early plantings.
An important objection of the invention is to provide a protector including a plurality of transparent walls, together with means for connecting the walls to permit them to be readily disconnected to facilitate the transporting and storing thereof.
Another object of the invention is to provide resilient fastening members which may be positioned around the protector to hold the walls thereof together, eliminating the use of screws, clamps or similar fastening means.
A still further object of the invention is to construct a protector which will be substantially triangular in formation to resist wind pressure and insure against the protector. being blown over.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and vclaimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plant protector constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional view through the device.
Figure 3- is a vertical sectional view through the upper portion of the device.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device includes a body portion which is substantially triangular in formation and constructed of transparent members 5.
In assembling the protector, edges of the members 5 are brought together and held against movement by securing members indicated generally by the reference character 6, it being contemplated to employ two of such securing members, one arranged adjacent to the upper end of the protector and the other arranged adjacent to the lower end of the body portion.
Each of these securing members includes a length of wire indicated at 7, which isformed with loops 8 at its ends, which loops accommodate the hooks 9 of the coiled spring 10 associated therewith so that the coiled spring will act to draw the loops8 of the length of wire, associated therewith towards each other to cause the wire to closely grip the side members of which the body is formed.
The reference character 11 indicates a covering which is formed of fabric material, portions of the covering being brought down over the transparent members of the body portion.
After the members 5 have been set up in the formation of a protector, and the fabric material has been positioned in a manner as shown by Figure 1 of the drawing, the fastening members are placed on the protector.
When the fastening members are positioned, the upper fastenin member is positioned over the downwar ly extended portions of the covering 11 to hold the covering 11 in position.
From the foregoing it will be seen that due to this construction, a protector constructed in accordance with the invention will be readily and easily disassembled and packed for shipment or storing.
I claim 1. A protector of the class described including a body portion formed of a plurality of transparent side members, fastening members surrounding the side members to hold the side members in upright positions, each of said fastening members comprising a length of wire having loops formed at its ends, a coiled spring having hooks fitted in the loops to connect the ends of the length of wire, and a cover of fabric material adapted to cover the upper ends of the side members.
2. A protector of the class described ineluding a body portion formed of a plurality of transparent side members, a fabric coyer positioned over the upper ends of the transparent side members, and having portlons thereof overlapping portlons of the side members, and resilient removable a fastening members adapted to embra'ee pon as myt-own lhave hereto ,aflixed my sig- -.natu1:e.
L g; a
tions of the side members to hold the side members together, and one of saidresilient JOSEPH HARRY COOK.
