To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that AUGUSTA HA nY, a citizen of Canada, residing at Kenmare, in the county of Ward and State of North Dakota, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes Lifters, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a clothes lifter, particularly to a device adapted for the use in connection with wash boilers and has for its primary object to provide a means for lifting clothes out of a wash boiler prior to rinsing the clothes, thus dispensing with a distasteful task of lifting the clothes out of the boiler by means of a stick.

A further object is to provide a device for lifting clothes out of a wash boiler that will lift the clothes at one operation and so con structed that the water will be compressed from same at the same time.

A still further object of my invention is to construct a clothes lifter that is simple in operation and construction, durable and efficient for the purpose intended, and one that may be manufactured and placed on the market at a comparatively low cost.

These and like objects will be better understood as the description of my invention proceeds and as is specifically pointed out in the appended claim.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification,

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a clothes lifter constructed in accordance with my invention and placed in an operative position within a boiler, the sides of the boiler being shown in section.

Figure 2 is a top plan view of same.

Figure 3 is a side elevation of my clothes lifter detached from a boiler.

Figure 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2'.

Referring to the drawings in detail, like numerals will be used to designate like parts in the different views, the numeral 1 denotes a washboiler of the usual construction and having positioned therein my improved clothes lifter 2, which consists of two separate members 3 and 4. Each of the members 3 and 4 comprises a wire netting 5 and a sheet iron frame 6 through which the wires are securely fastened. The wires may be fastenedto the iron frame in any preferred manner, no claim of invention being made for the method 52 fastening the wires.

Each frame 6 is substantially U-shaped in plan and the arms thereof terminate in vertical downward extensions, and said extensions having their lower terminations bent inwardly toward one another to form an additional U-shaped portion. Thus each frame 6 is in effect composed of a horizontal U-shaped portion and a vertical U-shaped portion, which sections are enclosed by the wire mesh 5. The base or horizontal portions of the vertical U-shaped sections of the frames 6 are hinged together on a horizontal axis as shown at 7. The frame 6 of the portion 3 is slightly less in width than the portion 4, as appears obvious from theillustration in the drawing and in this manner said portion 3 may be folded within the portion 4 when the device is lifted by the handles 8 secured on the upper portions of the frames 6. The portions 3 and 4 have a tendency to move towards one another on the hinges 7 when the device is lifted by the handles and in this manner the complete device may be removed from the boiler together with the clothes therein, and the water may be compressed from the clothes at the same time the device is being removed. The bottom corners 9 of the portions 3 and 4 are rounded in shape so that in lifting the device within a boiler the corners of same will not bind against the ends of the boiler. v While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I realize that minor changes may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed, therefore Ido not Wish to limit myself to the exact details of construction shown.

What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is A device of the class described comprising a pair of complementary elements, each ele ment consisting of a horizontal U-shaped frame, the arms thereof terminating in a vertical U-shaped frame, one element being of slightly less width than the other and adapted to fold within the latter, means hingedly securing the base portions of the vertical U-shaped frame on a horizontal axis, wire netting covering said frames, and handle members supported on the upper ends of said frames.
