To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, TINA H. SOLOMON and ISAAC TOLMACH, citizens of the United States, and residents, respectively, of' the boroughs of Brooklyn and Manhattan, counties of Kings and New York, city and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Powder Atomizers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to containers for pharmaceutical powder compounds or the like, and has for its object to provide an improved means for discharging its contents through a nozzle, in finely atomized streams, in any direction and form as governed by the construction of the nozzle.
A further object of this invention is to create a discharging force in the atomizer, by the use of a plunger which will be powder leak proof and simple in construction.
A still further object of this invention is to provide an atomizing powder box which will be durable, sanitary and so constructed as to be easily disassembled and cleaned.
To these and other ends the invention consists in certain improvements and combination of parts, all as will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the claim at the end of the specification.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is an elevation of a powder atomizer constructed in accordance with and embodying our improvements.

Figure 3 is a plan view of Figure 2, showing the construction of the sliding sleeve.
Referring now to the drawing, 1 represents a cylindrical powder container, having a slip cover or cap 2, which is held in place by virtue of friction, the other end being open, and having a step spun on it, as shown, the step acting as a stop for the plunger 3 when in its normal position, and as a step for the spring 4:, which is con tained in the sliding sleeve 5.
Spun from or soldered to the container 1, is a threaded nose 6, which acts as an outlet for the powder. The powder passes through this nose 6, and on out through parts, a leather cup washer 3, or any other like packing, held between two retaining washers 3 and 3, and is fastened together by means of the screw 8 and the tapped rod 9. The rod 9 is riveted to thesliding sleeve 5 and transmits the longitudinal motion of the sleeve 5 to the plunger 3. V
The sliding sleeve 5 is of cylindrical form, and slides on two circular beads, which are constructed on the periphery of the container 1, thereby minimizing the sliding friction. Punched in the back of the sleeve 5, are one or more holes, these holes acting to do away with any vacuum which may form between the back of the plunger 3 and the sleeve 5, and also to obviate the tendency for any powder to be forced behind the plunger 3.
The spring 4 is constructed of spring wire, and is used to bring the sleeve 5 back to its normal position after compression.
In using the atomizer the container lis charged by removing the cap 2, and placing the desired amount of powder into the container 1, after which the cap 2 is again placed in position. The atomizer is then held in one hand, and with the other hand the sleeve 5 is moved forward longitudinally and back again by means of the spring 4:.
The motion is transmitted through the rod 6 to the plunger 8, thereby creating a compression of the air in the container 1, and causing an air current through the powder and on out through the nozzle.
TVs are aware that various details of construction may be varied through a wide range, without departing from the principles of this invention. We therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
Having thus described our invention, we claim:
A portable powder atomizer comprising a tubular container, a cap movably connected with said container to close one end thereof, a nose projecting outwardly from the surface of said container in' proximity to the capped end and having an axial bore communicating with the interior of said container, a nozzle removably fitted upon said nose, a plunger slidably fitting said container in an air-tight manner to form a powder chamber therein, a rod detachably connected With said plunger and projecting therefrom eXteriorly of said container, a sleeve slidable upon the exterior of said container andxconnected'with said rod for guiding said plunger and for actuating it in one direction to expel powder through said nozzle and a spring located Within said sleeve and exteriorly of said container "for actuating said plunger in the opposite direction.
