. H.CRU5E I STEAM GENERATOR v Filed May 23, 1921 Patented Sept. 1,- 1925 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY GRUSE, or MANCHESTER, ENGLAND.
STEAM GENERATOR.
Application filed May 23,
certain Improvements in Steam Generators,
of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in anti-priming steam drying or superheating devices particularly adapted for steam generators of the vertical type.
With the aforesaid objects in view my invention consists of a fire tube or uptake leading from the combustion chamber of the boiler to and through the water and steam space and crown of the boiler; aseries of steam tubes or coils within the fire tube the inlet ends of which communicate with an annulus whilst their axis ends open into a steam-collecting chamber or pipe leading to the steam service pipe, and a casing or tube of larger diameter than the fire tube securedby its lower end to the latter, and open at its upper end to the steam space of the boiler to constitute with the fire tube the annulus referred to. r I I My invention will be fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which I Fig. 1. is a sectional elevation of the upper portion of a vertical steam generator, showing the application of the superheater device thereto.
I employ a fire tube a ofsufli'cient diameter rising from the dome Z) of the combustion chamber 0 with which it is suitably con-' nected at d, to the steam dome e, to the crown f of which latter it is convenientlyattached at g. It is shrouded or encased by tube h of larger diameter to form an annulus z for steam around it for a suitable portion of its length, the top of the eneasing tube h being open to the steam space of the boiler. Steam tubes is are placed inside the fire tube 1921. Serial No. 1,940.
a the inlet ends m of, which are expanded lnto its shell, thus opening into the annulus. These steam tubes are expanded at their exit ends into a tube plate n to which is secured the steam discharge pipe 0 The gases from the fire tube a, gain egress to the smoke chamber p through suitable openings 9 in the tube a, of smaller total area than the tube a and operating to retard the outflow of the gases and products of combustion.
Removable screwed plugs '1", are secured in the tube It opposite the lower ends of the steam tube is. The steam from the steam dome of the boiler passes down the annulus outside the fire tube to its lower end during which it is'subjected to the heat of the gases.
through and by contact with the heated wall of the fire ,tube whereby it is dried. It thence passes intoand along the steam tubes Where itis superheated before being dis-5v charged into the service pipe.
\VhatI claim is:
A. steam generator, comprising a boiler" shell, a combustion'chamber, a vertical fire tube secured to the combustionchamber and projecting through the top of the shell and provided with lateral outlets for smoke in its projecting portion, a horizontal tube platesecured to the top of the fire tube, a collecting pipe for steam secured over the tube plate, a cylinder having its lower end secured to the fire tube inside the shell and I forming with it an annular steam chamber which is open at its top to the steam space of the shell, and steam superheater pipes having verticalupper end portions secured in the said tube plate and having laterally bent lower end portionssecured in holes in the saidfire' tube and communicating with the lower part of the said annular steamv chamber. 1
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
. QIENRY CRUSE.
