FLASH LIGHT.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known. that I, CHARLES L. PionnNs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterloo, in the county of Black Hawk and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flash Lights; and I do hereby declare the follewing to be'a full, clear, anduexact description. of the invention, such as will enable others. skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention provides. a flashlightwhich may be attached to the forearm of the person and which derives current from a bat tery adapted to be carried in the pocket, said. flashlight being adapted to be focused by adjustment of the reflector which is connected to a movable part of the'case, the flashlight as a whole being attachable to the sleeve of a coat, thereby leaving both hands free to perform any required work.
Other objects an'd' advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
lVhile the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the application:
Figure 1 is a detail view of a flashlight and battery embodying the invention, portions of the battery case being broken away.
Figure 2 is a rear end view of the flashlight, showing the parts on a larger scale.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary view.
Figure 4 is a central longitudinal sectional view of the flashlight, the parts being shown on a larger scale.
Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 55 of Figure 1.
Figure 6 is an enlarged. sectional View on the line 6-6 of Figure 1, and
Figure 7 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 7-7 of Figure 1.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The flashlight embodies a head and body portion, the head 1 being preferably of metal and the body of insulating material and comprising longitudinal and transverse sections, the longitudinal section being connected by machine screws 2 or analogous fastening means and the transverse sections connected by means of tubes 3 wiich are secured between the longitudinal sections,
as indicated most clearly in Figure 5. The body sections are designated by the numerals eland 5. The tubes 3 extend across the joint formed between the sections 1 and 5. A clip 6 is attached. to. the section t and is intended to engage the end of the coat sleeve and a loop 7 is adapted to receive an elastic band (not shown) or other pre ferred device for securing the flashlight to the forearm of the person. The head lis hollow and its rear portion is constricted and adapted to be secured to the body portion in any preferred way. A lens or transparent plate 8 is fitted to the front of the head 1 in manner common in the construction of flashlights and is held in place by means of a retaining ring 9. A reflector 10 is adjustable within the head 1 and rods 11 attached thereto extend through the body and the tubes 3 and have their rear ends bent laterally, as indicated at 12, so as to make positive engagement with the section 5, whereby movement of the latter towards and away from the section 4- effects a corresponding movement of the reflector 10, whereby to focus the light. The electric bulb 13 is connected to the body of the flashlight case in the usual or any preferred way and current is supplied thereto by means of lead wires 14 which pass through the body of the case.
The battery case comprises sections 15 and 16 which are adapted to be connected in any preferred way and this case may be of metal having an inner lining 17 and a partition 18, the latter serving to separate the batteries 19. Springs 20 maintain the batteries 19 in proper position and a yoke 21 at one end of the case serves to connect the batteries upon opposite sides of the partition 18. Closures22 of insulating material are fitted to the outer ends of the battery case and the terminals of the conducting wires 14 are adapted to be plugged into one of such closures, as indicated most clearly in Figure 1. The numeral 23 designates a switch whereby the circuit may be closed or b oken as required,

1. A flashlight comprising a body including longitudinal and transverse sections, fastening means connecting the longitudinal sections, and tubes forming connecting means between the transverse sections and admitting of movement of the longitudinally alined sections on coincident planes.
2. A flashlight comprising a body including longitudinal and transverse sections, fastening means connecting the longitudinal sections, tubes forming connecting means between the transverse sections, a
light and a reflector in the head comprising the case, and connecting means between the reflector and the rear transverse section of the body and passing through the said tubes which form guides therefor, H1OV6 ment of the outer section of the body effecting focal adjustment of the reflector.
3. A flashlight comprising a hollow head and a sectional body, means for connecting the sections comprising the body of the case, tubes within the sections of the body and extending across the joint formed therebetween, a light and a reflector within the said head, rods attached to the reflector and passing through the said tubes and having engagement with the outer section of the body, and conducting wires for supplying current to the bulb and passing through the sectional body and adapted to be connected to a battery case stowed in the pocket of the user.

6. A flashlight including a body comprising relatively adjustable front and rear sections, a lamp carried by the front body section, a reflector, and reflector supporting means slidably carried by the front body section and flxed to the rear body section.
7. A flashlight including a body comprising front and rear sections, tubes connecting the body sections for relative adjust ment, a lamp carried by the front body section, a reflector, and reflector supporting rods slidably carried by the front body section and tubes and fixed to the rear body section.
