To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DAVID REIsz, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Game Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. This invention relates to improvements in game apparatus, and more particularly has relation to the game of chess and checkers, although it is to be understood that various forms and shapes of game pieces may be employed in the playing of various games without departing from this invention. An objectofhe invention is to provide a game board and a game piece container, the latter consisting 0 two sections, said eontainer sections and board being flexibly or hingedl connected, whereby the game board can be olded and function as a cover for the container sections, and the latter can be folded together and secured so as to occupy but small space when not in use.

A further object is to have during play all game pieces in sight, and handy to reach at all times, and to have the two sets of game pieces kept separated. a p

A further object is to provide a game apparatusof the character stated, which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonably low price, which will be neat and attractive in appearance, and which will be convenient for playing, storage and transportation. My improved gameboard embodies cer tain advantages some of which may be enumerated as follows:.

The game pieces are all in sight and handy to reach at all times when the game board is open for play, whether. game pieces are on the game board or in the container, hence there is no likelihood of losing the game pieces. I Y

A flexible tongue on said containerassures security to the game apparatus when in which also serves as a dull coating to prevent glare.

Game pieces are cylindrically shaped, not conically, therefore they fit more securely in the container.

The game pieces are proportioned in size to fit board container.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations, and ar whichis provided witha lon rangement of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed outin the claims.

These container sections 4 and 5 are shown with square corners and of general rectangular shape, but it is obvious that the invention is not limited to the exact shape or proportion of the parts. I

A flexible tongue 9 is fixedto one end of container section 5 and has a snap fastener member 10 thereon to engage a snap fastener member 11 on the other container section and secure the parts in folded or closed position as will more fully hereinafter appear.

The game pieces 6 above referred to preferably constitute both checkers and chess pieces and one of which is shown in detail in Figure 5.

The game pieces 6 may be made of any materia but wood is. cheap and may be employed, and each game-piece is provided with a circular recess 12 in one face to receive a disk 13 containing the character 14 thereon. The disk 13 is preferably slightly larger than the recess so that when pressed into place it will not require a esive or other securing means, and it is my intention to stamp or press the game piece at a single operation for economy and to provide more or less dull surface to prevent glare.

It is to be understood that one. face of each game piece will preferably constitute a chess character and the other face will be used for checkers, although it is of course, to be understood that other characters and forms ofgame pieces may be employed to- .play different games without departing Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do.not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make ,such changes and altera-- tions. as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A game apparatus, comprising a game board, a pair 0 game piece container sections hingedly connected and hingedly coname board, said ame board tioned over ft e container sections, and

means-for securing the container sections togather w1th the game board between them.

2.- A game apparatus of the character described, comprising a game board having fold lines crossing each other, a pair of container sections for game pieces, a flexible strip connecting the sections, flexible strips connecting the sections with the game board whereby the game board can be folded down upon the container sections to cover the game pieces in the latter, and said sections can be then folded together with the game board between them, and a fastener for securing the sections in folded position. v

3. A game apparatus of the character de scribed, comprising a pair of game piece container sections, a game board hingdly connected to the sections and foldable on top of them, a strip hingedly connecting the container sections, a tongue on one section, and snap fastener members on said tongue and the other section respectively for securing the parts in folded position.

' 4. A game" apparatus comprising a backing sheet, a partitioned foldable framing mechanism attached to the backing sheet, said framing mechanism adapted to house in its respective sections sets of fiat game pieces with their faces visibly exposed and means to retain the game pieces in the raming mechanism when the backing sheet and the framing mechanism are folded together.
