Be it known that I, HENRY lVnsrnNDonr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Halbur, in the county of Carroll and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Supporting Fixtures for Closure Members, of which the following` is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved supporting arrangement for closure members, such as screens, storm windows and storm doors.
The primary object of this invent-ion is the provision of a novel supporting hinge, whereby screens or storm doors and windows may be pivoted or hinged to a casing, so that they may be regulated in facile manner for closing or Ventilating purposes, and whereby the screen or door may be readily detached.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a hinge supporting arrangement for closure members, such as screens and storm doors and windows, used only at certain seasons of the year, and which it is desirable to remove during certain periods; said supporting arrangement being of such character as to permit instant attachment or detachment of the closure member, as desired.
A further object of the invention is t-he provision of an improved supporting arrangement for closure members, whereby the closure member may be effectively swung or slid out of the opening in which the same is positioned and maintained in a determined position for Ventilating purposes.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent during the course of the following detailed description.

In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of this invention, the letter A designates a building construction embodying a casing B, in which a closure member C is provided, supported by hinges D. A fastening device E is preferably provided in connection with the casing B and its closure member C to maintain the latter in a determined opened or closed relation.
The hinges D will find their most general use in connection with the supporting of screens and storm doors which are used for certain seasons each year, and whereby the screens or doors may be readily attached, detached, or regulated. Consequently, it is preferred that the casing B be a window casing embodying the side pieces 10 and 11, and within the opening 13 of which casing B, the stop strips 14 are attached, in any preferred manner.
The closure member C may, of course, be of any type, such as a door, screen, or the like, and which includes a supporting frame 15 embodying side sections 16 and 17, and top and bottom sections 18 and 19 respectively. The closure member C is, of course, positioned within the plane of the opening 13, defined by the window casing B,so that when the closure member C is shut within the opening 17, the outer surfaces of the sections of the closure member frame 15 preferably lie flush with the outer surface of the casing frame sections 10 and 11. In this position, the frame sections 10 and 16 of the casing B and closure member C respectively are in adjacent relation, whereas the frame sections 11 and 17 of the window casing B and closure member C are adjacently positioned; the latter sections 11 and 17 being those sections which receive the hinge members D in a manner to be subsequently described.
Referring to the improved type of hinge D, the same includes leaves 2() and 21, respectively adapted for attachment to the described.

The leaf or section 2O is preferably formed of sheet metal stamped or bent to provide an attaching flange 22, which is provided with a plurality of openings therein for receiving screw elements 23 or the like, whereby the flange 22 may be secured upon the outer surface of the window side piece 11. An elongated loop portion 24C is provided as a part of the leaf 20, preferably integral with the attaching portion 22, rand which is substantially one half of the vertical dimension of the attaching portion 22, the portions 22 and 211 being so formed as to have ytheir lower marginal edges lying ilush with each other. The loop portion 24e` provides an elongated slot 26, and is disposed with its major'aXis at an obtuse angle with respect to the face of the casing and extending beyond the plane of the jamb 28 of the casing as clearly shown in Figure 3. The loop 24 is, infact, provided by bending the material thereof until the free end thereof is adiacently disposed with respect to the attaching portion and substantially as is illustrated in Figures 2 and 3 ofthe drawings. wing flange l2 is provided as a portion of theleaf 21, extending in a plane at an acute angle with respect to the plane defined by the attaching flange 30, and having a slot 34 lextending upwardly therein from the lower marginal edge 35 of the leaf1 21, to provide a projection or leg 36, which is provided for sliding reception within the slot 26 ofthe leaf section 20. Y As is illustrated in Figure 1, the closure member C is provided with a pair of hinges D. Theleaves 20 and 21 having been assembled upon vthe window casing B and closure member C respectively, it is merely necessary for an operator to dispose the legs or proyections 86 of 1the leaves 21V in the uter portion of the guide slots 26 of the leaves y20, and it is obvious that the closure member C will be supported by the'hinge leaves 2U. rlhe position of the hinge leaf 21 during such `attaching operation of the closure member C is indicated in the dotted lines in Figure 3 of the drawings. From this view, it can be seen that the closure niember C is entirely removed from the opening 13 of the window casing B during an attaching operation, and whereby an opH erator may grasp the . side sections 15 and 17 of the closure member frame 15 vith case, since Va clearance is provided between the closure member and the window casing during such attaching operation. Due to the inclination of the slot 26, it is but necessary for an operator to grasp the outside section 16 of the window frame 15, in ordcrto `slide the leaf 21 longitudinally in the slots 26, until the'projections 3G are disposed within the inside ends of the slots 26, so that the closure member C may be swung in the ordinary manner into closedv or opened position. It is to be noted that when the closure meniber C is placed within the opening 13 to close the same, the edge portions of the closure frame section 17 is disposed in its engagement against the shoulders 2? provided by the fixed hinged sections 2O,V so that it is first necessary to oscillate or, swing the closure member-C, before thefsame may be slid longitudinally in the guide slots 2G.V In this manner, the attaching edge of theclosure member C is prevented from swinging outwardly when the frame B is in closed position. i
Referring to the fastening arrangement E, the same preferably includes a hook 40, and an eyebolttl. The hook member 40 is preferably of wire, bent to provide an at taching eye portion 39, at one end thereof, and a latch projection 42 upon the other end thereof, adapted for cooperation in the eye bolt L11. The material of the hook d0, adjacent the eye 39, is bent to provide `an arcuate extension 44, oifset to a side of the plane of the attachingr eye 39, and likewise adapted for cooperation in the eye of the bolt Ll1. t is preferred that the hook niember L10 be attached to tlieoutside of the stop bead or strip vr1-1, adjacent the casing section 10; and the eye bolt L11 be attached to the inside of the closure member G, upon the section 16 of the frame thereof.
In operation, when the closure member G "is entirely disposed within the opening 13 of the window casing B,the hook memberE will be in a position as is illust 'ated in Figure 1 of the drawings, and in which position, the projection end 14 will be disposed within the eye of the bolt 41 for locking-of the closure member C in position for sealing the casing` opening 13. On the other hand,

or closure member C open vfor Ventilating purposes, the same is swung upon the leaf sections 20 and, if desired, ma f be swung so that the projections 36 are disposed in the outer ends .of the guide slots 26. In this position, the hook member if@ can be so placed that the latch end f2 thereof is disposed within the eye of the bolt 4l and whereby the closure member C may be held in a fixed open relation to the window casing B, as can be readily understood.
F rom the foregoing', it can be seen that a supporting arrangement for closure members has been provided, embodying a plurality of novelly designed fixtures, which are relatively simple in construction, may be economically manufactured, and which will effectively maintain the closure member C in relation to the casing B, so that the same may be instantly attaohednor detached as desired.
Various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parte, may be made to the form of invention herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of this invention or the scope of the claims.
I claim:
l. In a structure of the class described, the combination with a supporting casing defining an opening, and a closure member adapted for fitting into the opening; of a hinge means connecting` the closure member with the casing and including a hinge member secured to the casing and having an elongated loop portion with the major axis of its slot at an obtuse angle to the face of the casing and extending beyond the plane of the jamb of the closure receiving opening, and a hinge member secured to the closure member and having a wing flange portion ext-ending outwardly from rthe closure member in spaced relation inwardly from the plane of the sidel edge thereof, said flange extending in crossed relation above the loop of the casing carried hinge member and provided with a depending leg fitting into the slot thereof and mounting the closure member for swinging and sliding movement.
2. As an article of manufacture, a hinge leaf formed of sheet material providing a flat attaching Harige, and a tongue extending from the attaching flange and bent to eX- tend from the attaching flange at an obtuse angle, said tongue being bent back upon itself with its free end in close proximity to the attaching flange and providing an elongated eye, the lower edge of said tongue being flush with the lower edge of the attaching' flange and the upper edge of the tongue being' in a plane below the plane of the upper edge of the attaching flange.
3. As an article of manufacture, a hinge construction comprising a leaf provided with an attaching flange, and an arm portion extending diagonally fi'om one end of said attaching flange and having a slot extending' at an obtuse angle with respect to 'the plane of the attaching portion, the arm portion having its lower edge flush with the lower' edge of the attaching flange and its up per edge in spaced relation to the plane of the upper edge of the attaching flange, said hinge construction including a second leaf providing an attaching flange and having an outturned wing extending in converging and crossed relation to the slotted portion of the first section and provided at its outer end with a depending leg adapted for pivotal and sliding movement within the slot of said first mentioned section.
4. ln a device of the class described, the con'ibination with a casing and a. closure member operating within an opening thereof, said casing and closure member when in assembled closed relation having the outer surfaces thereof in flush relation, of a hinge construction embodying a leaf attached to said window casing and providing an outwardly extending slotted portion which overlaps and provides' a shoulder against which a portion of the closure member rests when in closed position, and a second leaf embodying an outwardly extending projection adapted for pivotal and sliding movement within the slot of the first mentioned section, said closure member when in the casing in closed position resting against the shoulder of the first mentioned section, and adapted to be opened by first oscillating the same and then sliding the same bodily along the slotted portion of said first mentioned section.
