Description
` the tub at right angles Patented July 2l, 1925.v
EMMA F. GLAUBER BLACK, 0F LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
BATHTUB.
Application led September 29, 1922. Serial No. 591,257.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, EMMA F. GLAUBER BLACK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Losy Angeles, in the county ofLos Angeles and State of California, have invented certain n/ew and useful Improvements 1n a Bathtub, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bath tubs and has for its object u toprovide a bath tub which is economical of floor space and which is constructed as to provide novel features contributing to the comfort and convenlence of the bather.
In many dwellings, especially apartment houses and hotels, bath rooms are often very small and consequently the bath tubs used therein are so small that an adult person using the tub is forced toA assume uncon'lfortable positions therein. It is the purpose of the present invention to provide a bath tub which will occupy a smaller amount of floor space by reason of the fact that it is rectangular in' form and has vertical walls adapted to itin the'corner of the room and which will permit the bather to lie down in the tub with comfort diagonally of the tub. The outery corner opposite the corner of the room is flared outwardly and rounded mid- Way between the bottom of the tub and upper edges of the walls and a combined seat and head rest is provided in which the bather may sit while bathing or upon which 4he may rest his head while'lying upon the bottom of the tub. The outwardly Haring rounded corner also serves to increase the diagonal length of the tub. A further improvement consists informing in the outwardly Haring rounded upper edge of the vtub a seat for the convenience of the bat-her in wiping and dressing after the bath.
In the annexed drawings forming a part of this specification:y
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of .the tub. Fig. 2 is a vertical section diagonally of the tub on a line l2 2 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section diagonally of to Fig. 2.
Referring to the annexed drawing the tub which is substantially square in shape has Vertical side walls 1 and 2 forming a square corner adapted-toit in the corner'formed by the walls 3 and 4 of the room. The other two walls 5 and 6-of the tub extend at right angles to the walls 1 and 2 and have their' upper portions flared outwardly and terminating in a rounded corner 7 opposite the corner of the room. The bottom 8 of the tub is offset upwardly -between the flared portions of the walls 5 and 6 to form a seat 9 within the rounded corner 7. The seat 9 is provided with a concave depression 10, adapted to accommodate the. hips and thighs and a pommel 11, at the center of the for-l ward portion of the seat to preventl slipping oil the seat. The pommel l1 has a rounded central depression 12 to accommodate the neck of a bather lying upon the bottom of the tub with his head upon the seat 9. The bather can sit upon the seat 9 in bathing, or lie upon the bottom of the tub with his head upon the seat as shown in Fig. 3.' The tub is provided adjacent the inner corner with the usual drain 13 and is positioned beneath a spigot 14 supported ou the wall above the tub. If desired the tub may be placed beneath a shower.
For the convenience of the bather in drying himself, and in putting on his clothes, a
seat is formed on the upper edge of the tub at the corner 7. The seat compuses a pa1r of concave depresslons 15 which are 1nclined downwardly toward the outside of Y the tub and are separated by a pommel 16 to prevent slipping olf the seat. For lack of space it is often inconvenient or impossible to puta chair in the bath room and in that ease the seat 15 enables thel bather. to sit upon the corner of the tub while wiping and dressing. Beneath the seat 15 afoot rest 17 is formed in the wall of the tub which is convenient in wiping the ;feet, putting onstockings and shoes andin getting into and out of the tub,- especially children Y and iniirm `or invalid persons. What I claim, is:
A substantially7 rectangular bath tub having vertical walls and-formed at one corner to fit in the corner of a room, the walls at the corner diagonally opposite said first mentioned corner being protruded to increase the size of the tub diagonally and flared outwardly andv rounded, having a Vseat formed- Y upon the upper edge of said tub at the rounded corner and a foot rest formed upon the wall of the tub beneath said'seat. In testimony whereof I allxi" mysignature.
EMMA E'. GLAUEER BLlloK.
