Description

Patented July 14, 1925.
UNITED STATES FRANK L. HARMON, 0E BEVERLY, MASSACHUSETTS.
I BOBBIN-MAKING PROCESS.
N'o Drawing. Application filed May 2,
17 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK L. HAnMoN, of Beverly, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Bobbin-Making Process, of Which the following is a specification.
This invention relates N 0. 636,206, filed May 2, 1923, entitled Bobbin-making process, and also to my Patent No. 1,495,174, dated May 27, 192 1, and entitled, Bobbin and shuttle combination.
The object of this invention is to provide a new type of bobbin structure, Whose great novelty consists in its dry,n0rmal, adherent, operative structure adapting it to keep its exact Wound shape and dimensions absolutely necessary for its bobbin use, for an indefinite time, regardless of Weather conditions, thus adapting it for reliable internal, and external bobbin uses, or in other Words, from its inside outward, and from its outside inward, and thus adapting it for use, to use more thread in a bobbin With upper thread loops of a given dimension in machine sewing, than can be used in any other bobbin structure, as is disclosed in said patent.
.This process comprises: the sizing of a textile thread line with a thick sizing of gum tragacanth, or the like, the stripping of nearly all of the sizing off from the line, the stretching of the line, the Winding of the stretched line into a bobbin on a Winding support or spindle, the holding stretched line from rebound by the Winding support, and the drying of the sizing in the bobbin, thus changing the character of the sizing and structure, and adapting the sizing to my application' of the g 1923. Serial No. 636,206.
to attain its necessary function not attainable by moist sizing, thus adapting the dry sizing to rigidly hold the'stretched line from rebound without the aid of its Winding sup port, and to hold its exact Wound shape and dimensions for an indefinite time, and to adapt it for uses, as aforesaid. Therefore Iclaim: I 1 1. A bobbin-making process comprising: the sizing of a textile thread line; the press ing of the sizing into said line; the stripping of nearly all of the sizing off from said line; 50 the stretching of said line; the Winding of said line into a bobbin on a Winding support, or spindle; and the drying of said sizing in a the bobbin.
l 2. A bobbin-making process comprising: the sizing of a textile thread line; the press ing of the sizing into said line; the stripping of nearly all of the sizing ofl from said line; the stretching of said line; the Winding of said line into a bobbin on a Winding support, or spindle; the holding of the stretched line from rebound by said Winding support; and, the drying of said sizing in the bobbin, and thereby causing the dried sizing to hold said stretched line from rebound independent of said Winding support, and thereby adapting the bobbin for reliable internal, and external bobbin uses in a sewing machine, and to keep its Wound shape, and dimensions necessary for such use, for an indefinite time.
