Hor-PLATE APPARATUS. i
Application filed April 29, 1924. "SerialvNaV 709,919.
To @ZZ whom t 'may concern.'
Be it known that we, HENRY PAULETT, of l1 Lodge Buildings, Ystalyfera, in the county of Glamorgan, VValeS, VILLIAM AU BREY JONES, of 7 5 Rhyddings Park Road, Swansea, in the county of Glamorgan, lVales, and R101-IARD VVILLIAIWI OWEN, of 2l Cimla Road, Neath, in the country of Glamorgan, lVales, subjects of the King of Great Britain, having invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Hot- Plate Apparatus, do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention relates to hot-plates, or ovens, particularly for the use of bakers and pastry-cooks, and has for its object to provide an apparatus which shall be simple in construction ,and so may be cheaply manufactured, and efiicient in use, a char? acteristic featurebeing that the ytemperature of the hot-plate may be regulated or adjusted to a nicety. f
ln carrying out our invention, there is provided a structure which comprises or includes a preferably lire-brick lined furnace, and a horizontal ilue or chamber of appropriate length which is divided by means of a longitudinal partition or baffle plate into two portions, the lower portion being hereinafter termed, for convenience of reference, baffle-plate chamber, and the upper portion hot-plate chamber.
In said baffle-plate there are formed at suitable intervals a plurality of ports or openings of `desired size and shape or configuration, each port or opening being controlled by means of a damper plate or valve.
The top of said horizontal' flue, which is preferably of cast iron, constitutes a hot plate.
The structure may include a smoke box whereto is connected the lower end of a stack, or uptake, in which there is fitted an externally-actuated draught-regulating closure member.
Ve will further describe our invention with the aid of the accompanying sheet of explanatory drawings which illustrate, by way of example only, one mode of carrying the invention into effect.
In said drawings Fig. l is a part-sectional elevation of the apparatus, Fig. 2 being an end elevation, and Fig. 3 is a part-sectional plan. Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken as on line A--A Fig. 3, drawn to an enlarged` scale as compared with the preceding views, and Figs. 5 and '6 are details also drawn to an enlarged scale.
a designates a furnace with iire bars and fire door c. Said furnace communicates with a horizontal llue eZ, e and a smoke box f whereto is connected the lower end ofa stack or uptake g in which there is fitted a draught-regulating disc z, adapted to be actuated by means of an external handle j.
le indicates a longitudinal partition or balde-plate which divides the flue CZ, c into two portions, a baHe-,plate chamber Z and a hot-plate chamber e; and Z, Z areports formed in said horizontal partition or baffle plate la. m, fm, are damper plates which are slidable in side guides n and may be individually operated -through link connections o by the aid of handles p.
The cast-iron top g of the flue constitutes a hot-plate. Said smoke box f is provided with a door r in order that access to said chambers CZ, e maybe readily obtained for the purpose of inspection and cleaning.
In use the hot gases produced by the burning' of fuel in the furnace a ascend to said bathe-plate chamber CZ and from thence are admitted to the hot-plate chamber e accordingly as-to which of the ports Z of the baiiie-plate 7c are uncovered and the extent of the openings. Thus, by adjusting some or all of said dampers m in appropriate relationship with their .ports Z the temperature of the hot plate g may be regulated to exact requirements forbaking or cooking.v
The walls of said baille-plate and hotplate chambers LZ, c are preferably filled or lined with silicate cotton, or other suitable heat insulating material, and the end of the i baille-plate chamber Z remote from the furnace a is provided with a door (Z1.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is z- 1. A hot plate apparatus comprising a horizontal chamber thetop wall of which is adapted to serve as a hot plate, a furnace communicating with said chamber, a hor'- zontal partition in said chamber provided with a plurality of openings, and individual dampers for said partition openings.
2. An apparatus as called for in claim l,
wherein said clampers are slidable on said partition and operatable rorn'the front side of saicl apparatus. A Y
8. A lhot plate apparatus comprising a horizontal chamber, the top wall of which is adapted to serve as a hot plate, a furnaee at one end of said chamber, a smoke box at the opposite end of said chamber, a horizontal partition in said chamber, Said horizontal partition having openings, a door at one end of said partition controlling communication between the lower part of said chamber and said smoke box, and means slidable on said partition adapted for closing the partition openings. 15
4. A hot plate apparatus as called for in olaiin 3, wherein said `ineans includes individually operated dampersf" In testimony whereof we affix our signatures inthe presence of two witnesses.
