Application tied team 22, it' i. sisal 1 ft. 'zttii's'i;
Be ailment that r; Pint-11 Peder, a citizen of Hblla'nd, residing New nor-p, StatenIsland, in the count of Riciimqfid and Stateofllew York, if we invented cercan new i Springs"; o'f'which the following is a specification. i
This invention relates to springs or fillers secured to a ring by a strong and reliable connection which is both neat and inconspicuous.
Still another object this invention is to provide a spring or filler for a, ring said spring being particularly adapted to be neatly and acciirately' secured within said ring, and in as expedite a manner as possible through manipulation of a tool arranged for that purpose, such tool being preferably of the type disclosed in my co-pending application Serial No. 745,052.
\Vith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and while the invention is not restricted to the exact details of construction disclosed or suggested herein, still for the purpose of illustrating a practical embodiment thereof, reference is had to the accompanying drawings in which like reference characters designate the same parts in the several views, and in which Figure l is a perspective view of the spring.
Fig. same.
Fig. 3 is a view showing the spring secured within a ring.
Fig. i is an edge view of the same with a part in section on the line 4- of Fig. 3.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, 1 showthe spring or filler as consisting mainly of a clamping or bow-shaped member 10, and having preferably a plurality of side arms or branches 11. This filler which is preferably of arcuate form readily secured wlthin a conventional ring 2 is a longitudinal section of the and useful improvements in Ring Which of'the" aboiit the 'fiii'gei piopz-i erly v center the finger wit theiringi v inwardly from fi' tl'i' ilr martian therewith s p made of k spring material to resihent;

The spring is rounded at the main points of contact thereof with the wearer to permit of an easy insertion or removal of the linger from the ring, and with as little strain as possible upon the connection referred to whereby the spring is secured to the ring. More particularly, the ends of the. spring are rounded or cupped inwardly at 14, providing a convex surface 15 to afford a comfortable and easy sliding contact with the finger of the wearer as well as an effective gripping thereof. The rounded or cupped portions of the spring may be made somewhat wider for this purpose than the main portion of the spring which is preferably of less width than the ring wherein it is used so as to facilitate concealment thereof within the ring when worn in the usual manner. The spring is thus positioned in the ring within the planes bounding the sides thereof, and secured in sufiicient rigidity thereto to pre-' clude the possibility of movement of the spring beyond said planes while in use.
The spring is fastened to the ring in a rigid manner and in such way as is consistcut with the objects of this invention. Preferably it is soldered thereto at the center portion 13 of the spring as already indicated. To provide space for the solder so that the connection may be as neat and inconspicuous as possible, a dent or groove 16 is formed in the bottom of the spring. A lip or lug 17 is likewise formed at the central portion of the spring and preferably as a result of striking said groove, thus providing means for holding the central portion of the spring against movement while inserting the spring into the ring, as well as for gripping the finger of the wearer. The spacing of the arms 11 from the sides of the ring provides for the ready gripping thereof by said tool, and facilitates the manipulation and adjustment thereof within the ring for the purposes of securing alinement and proper fastening connection. By means of the tool aforesaid, the spring is first held in automatic adjustment within the ring, and the solder is applied while so held to fasten the same.
claim:
1. The herein described filler for a ring arranged the ring, said filler being surface of contact between the filler and the ring at said point of attachment so as to permit a quantity of solder to be contained within said cup for securing the filler snugly to the ring.
2. The herein described filler for a ring arranged to be secured at a point within the ring, said filler having a portion arranged to closely contact the inner surface of the ring, said portion having a cup formed inwardly toward the center of the ring, the opening of said cup lying in the surface of contact between the filler and the ring so that said ring acts as a closure for said cup when the filler is arranged therein, said cup being adapted to contain solder to se cure the filler to the ring and to contain said solder from spreading when the filler is attached to the ring.
3. The combination with a ring, of a filler arranged to be secured therein at a portion thereof, said portion formed to lie in close contiguity to the inner surface of said ring, an inwardly extending cup being the filler and the mug, and solder within said cup to secure the filler to the ring, said solder being confined within said cup by the ring acting as a closure therefor at said surface of contact to prevent spreading of the solder and injury to the ring while the filler is being attached.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature PHILIP PHOEII.
