G. w. BURKE, JR SPRING CLIP BRACKET FQR BURKE HAND F IRE EXTINGUISHERS Filed Sept- 12, 1922 Patented June 9, 1925.
UNITED STATES enonsn w. BURKE, are, or DAYTON, OHIO.
SPRING-CLIP BRACKET Fort BURKE HAND Finn nXTINGUIsHEns.
Application filed September 12, 1922; Serial no. 587,831.
To all whom it. may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. Bunn e, J12, a citizen of the United States, residlng at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring-Clip Brackets for Burke Hand Fire Extinguishers, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to a' spring clip bracket for fire extinguishers and more particularly to brackets for such fire extinguish ers as shown inmy. co-pending application, Ser. N o. 28,006 filed December 3, 1920.
It is the object of this invention to provide simple and eflicient means whereby the pistol grip fire extinguisher referred to in my above noted application may be quickly secured in a handy position on the. plane and may be available at an instants notice. In'
this connection the clip is arranged so that the fire extihguishermaybe quickly inserted, quickly removed and securely retained therein at all times when not in use. Furs ther objects will become apparent from the claims, the description and the drawing, in which: 7
Fig. 1 is a perspective view'of my device showing it in the position to receive the fire extinguisher and:
Fig. 2 is a perspective vi'ewshowing-the manner in which fire extinguisher is secured therein.
Numeral 2 designates any suitable base to. which the clip generally designated 4 may be secured and in the case contemplated the clip will be attached to an easily accessible portion of the airplane, automobile or other structure whereby the extinguisher may be 7 held in a position for immediate use. The
clip 4 is comprised oftwo base members 6, 8
to which two rings 10, 12 are secured as by rivets, two longitudinal bracing and guiding members 14, 16 riveted or otl'ierwise secured to said rings, and bracing members 18, 20 secured to the rings and to the base members 6, 8 to give rigidityto the portions ad jac ent the base 2.
less width than the opening 24 of ring12,
in order that the projecting portions 26 may act as stops to abut against a portion of the extinguisher as shown in Fig. 2 to prevent V prising, a plurality to prevent its thepistol from bei'ng forced beyond the corsufficient rigidity in a'lateral sense, and the guides 14, 16 may be similarly strengthened by making them in U-form as shown.
- The rear ring clip 12 has short projections 28, similarto projections 26, but each 'pro'jection has both corners rounded off, as shown;
inorder that the pistol grip 30 of the extinl i guisher may ride between the projections in and out of its position in the bracket. On insertion of the extinguisher in the bracket theprojections 28 will ride over the grip 30 and engage behind it as shown in Fig. 2,- and Wlll be securely retamed in the bracket ready for instantaneous removal.
j What I claii'n and desire to secure by Let;
ters Patent is:
1. A bracket for cylindrical objects coni- I prising, a plurality of parallel loops each having one side thereof open, parallel guide bars secured in perpendicular relation to the parallel loops adjacent the open ends thereof, the ends of one end loop extending to"- ward each other substantially;beyond said parallel guide bars, the ends of the other end loop extending slightly beyond said guide b'arsbut rounded off and in sufliciently close juxtaposition to retard rearward motion of a cylindrical'object inserted therebe tween and yet to allow the object to be withdrawn on a positive: rearward pull and means connected to said bracket to secure it toa supporting means.
2. Abracket for. cylindrical objects com:-
'ofsubstantially parallel loops each loop having an opening there n, parallel guide bars secured'm perpendicular 'relationto the parallel. loops adjacent the open-ends thereof, the opening inone end 3 loop being of such width as toguide' a lug on an object to be retained by the ln'acket but passing therethrough, the loop V e p ends ofthe other end-loop passing toward N either ring is quitea closure and for the each other suflicie-ntly to retard rearward movement of an object therein due to its own'inertia but allowing rearward move ment of such object on "a positive pull, means for attaching the bracket to a support.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
