THOMAS v. Banner nonrnnatneunsno; canAnAi' HOLDER roe. coonrn'a CHECK BOOKS AND 'rnn LI'KE. f
Appiic'ation filed A ri as, 1921'. sem N. eeaeee.
1 '0 all whom it may] concern p Be it known that I, TrroMAsV. BELL, a subject of the King of Great Britain, .and resident of the city of l VIontreal, in the Province of Quebec and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Counter Check Books a-nd the like, of which the tlollowing a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvenients in holders for counter check books and the like, and the object is to provide a simple, inexpensive and durable holder for a plurality of books.
A further object is to provide aholder providing a stwitl backing for each book contained therein.
Still another object is to provide a holder which will give easy access to the entire area of each book therein.
Another object is to provide a holder in which the books are independently supported.
' The invention resides briefly in providing a holder having a back cover carrying a jointed back towhich is hingedly attached a front cover. Divisions are connected to the back in such a manner that they are hingedly related to one another and to the back and front covers, so that any or all may he moved as desired.
In the drawings which illustrate the invention Fig. 1 is a side elevation of one form of the holder in closed position.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the holder partly open.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of another form of the holder.
Referring more particularly to the draw ings, 11 designates a back cover and 12 a front cover connected togetherby a back 13 comprising hingedly related sections 14 and 15 connected by a pin 16. The back section 14 is rigidly connected to the back cover 11 and the front cover is hingedly connected to the back section 15 by a pin 17. Divisions 18 and 19 are provided between the front and back covers and are connected to the back by brackets 20 and 21 respectively, which are rigidly secured to the divisions. in order to secure adjustable relation between the divisions 18 and 19, they are preterably connected respectively to the sections 14- and 15 of the back and, in order to secure adjustable relation between the lower the. back section 15'.
back sections. As thetwo' divisions are dis?- p'osed on opposite sides of thehinge point of the back, it is n t necessary to establish any hinging relation between theupper di vision 19 .and the back section '15, so that the bracket 21 may be rigidly attached to (lon'ntcr' check books or the like may be mounted by any suitable means (not shown) on the back cover 11 and on the' lower and up an divisions 18 and '19 respectively. Upon raising the front cover 12,.th'e' back on the upper division 19 is exposed. If the. hack on the lower division 18 is desired,
the upper division 19 is raised and the back folds upon its hinge, as indicated inFigure 2. to expose the desired book, the book on the upper division being in the meantime protected by the front cover 12. If the book on the back cover 11 is desired, the lower division 18 is raised and swings about the hinge pin 16. The thickness of the backs on the lower and upper divisions raise the upper divisions and cover so that the three elements 18, 19 and 12 with the backs be-' tween them swing upwardly as a unit about the pin 16.
While the invention has been shown and described only as providing for three books, it will be understood that the number may be increased by providing additional sections in the back between the sections 1 1 and V 15 and additional divisions connected to these sections in either of the manners illustrated as may be found desirable. The
holder providing for three books only has been chosen for illustration,' as it is the one I most generally used in large stores where the system of accounting requires'separate books for cash sales and charged sales and a third separate book for exchanges or other transactions apart from cash and charged sales.
The ditlerence between the forms shown in Figures 1 and 3 is that the cover 12 is rigidly instead of hingedly connected to the back section 15, so that when throwing back the cover the back section is also moved. In order to prevent cover move- 19, this division is hingedly related to the 'ment from being transmitted to the division back section 15, conveniently by extending its supporting bracket 22 into the back hinged in the same manner as the bracket 20, the same pin'16 serving to connect all the members together.
The holder is very simple and durable in its construction and is no more complicated to operate than the ordinary holder, each of the divisions serving as a cover for the book below and being operable by a single movement to expose the book. The device isextremely convenient by reason of providing a single holder for a plurality of books, so that the same do not become separated. Vhile the invention has hitherto been described only as relating to counter check books, it will be understood that the invention is not thus limited as it may be used equally well to hold a' plurality catalogues, price lists, date sheets orcombinations of these or other material. Each of the elements 11, 1:8 and 19 maybe provided with pockets, clips or the like according to vcustom to hold summary sheets, indices or the like.
f Having thus described ny invention, what I claim is 1. A book holder comprising a back formed of a pair of plates and a pin hingedly connecting the inner edges of the plates, covers attached to the outer edges of the plates and an intermediate book support hinged to said pin.
2. A book holder, as recited in claim 1, in cluding a second book support secured to theback to occupy a position between. the first support and one of said covers.
3. A book holder comprising a back formed ot'a pair of plates, and a pin hingedly connecting theinner edges of the plates, a cover rigidly secured to the outer edge of one plate, a second cover hingedly secured to the outer edge of the other plate and an intermediate book support hinged to saidpin and occupying a position between said covers.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand THOMAS: v. BELL.
