UNITED STATES JOSEPH KLINKHAMMER, or HOPKINS, MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR or ONE-HALF 'ro YGUsrAvr. A. BETHKE, Yor HOPKINS, MINNESOTA.
TRUCK Hoists.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOSEPH KLINKHAM- MER, a citizen of the United States, resid# ing at Hopkins, in the county of Hennepin and State o f Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Truck lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such a-s will enable others skilledvin the art to which it apper-l tains to make and use the same.
My present invention has vfor its object toprovide an extremely .simple and highly eflicient hoist attachment for trucks and the like and to .this end it consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter describedy and defined in the claims. j In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the severall views.
Referring to the drawings: j Fig. 1 is a View partly vin elevation and partly in central vertical section showing the invention applied to a truck platform;
Fig. 2 is a detail view with some parts sectioned on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a detail view with some parts sectioned on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
The numeral 4 indicates a truck platform on which the hoist attachment is mounted. Said hoist attachment includes a long tubular main casing 5, the lower end portion of which is telescoped into a supplemental tubular casing 6, and a tubular mast 7 is mounted in the main vcasing 5 and has on its lower end a conical bearing point 8 which rests directly on an anti-friction step bearing 9. The bearing 9 is turnably supported on a plug 10 screwed into the lower end of the.l supplemental casing G. The bearing point 8 is secured to the mast 7 by reducing the upper end portion thereof and telescoping the sam-e into the lower end of said mast. The lower end portion of the main casing 5 is also mounted on the step bearing 9 for turning movement with the main casing 5. On the upper end of the mast 7 is a head 11, the lower end of which is reduced and telescoped intothe upper end of the mast 7.
An arm 12 is inserted through a vertical slot 13 in the head 11 and is intermediately pivoted at 14 to said head. This arm- 12 is held against pivotal movement by a pair of upright laterally spaced links or bars 1,5, the
lower ends of which, are attached to yananchoring bracket 16 on the main casing 5 just above the supplemental casing 6 and rits upper ends are' attached y to the short endy of the arm 12. Thejanchorin-g bracket 16,.,as shown, is in the rform of a split collar having a pair of radially projectingwebs 17 connected by a pair of draw boltsv18 for frictionally clamping said anchoring bracket to the main casingv 5. Formed 'with 'oneA of the webs 17 is a hub `19 that projects 4between .the two links 15, andto which; said links are securedA by a nutfequippedbolt 21. The links 15 are adjustably securedfto the arm 12 by a nut yinserted through any one pair of a plurality of vertically spaced holes 22 therein and a hole inthe short end` of the arm 12. Obviously, by inserting the bolt 21 through the different vertically spaced pairs of holes 22, the long end of the arm 12 may beheldat different elevations... Av block and tackle indicated asanentirety by the numeral V,23 n, is held suspended from` a ring in the long end of the arm 12. The links 15 connect the main casing 5 and mast for common rotation to swing the arm 12 in a horizontal plane.
To support the hoist attachment on the truck platform 4, there is provided a bracket 25 comprising upper and lower members each -of which has a sleeve bearing 26 in which the supplemental casing 6 is mounted. This bracket 25 is secured to the supplemental casing 6 `by set'screws 27. A nutequipped bolt 28 is extended through aligned bores in the inner end portions of the members of the bracket 25 and the platform 4 and secures said members to the truck plat-` form 4. The members of the bracket 25 are also connected by a pair of nut-equipped bolts 29 "passed through aligned Vbores in .mental casing Gand truck platform 4 inward of the'bracket 25 and holds the hoist attachment'in an upright position.
A n angle anchoring plate 31 is swiveled on a nut-equipped stud 32 formed 'with the upper end of the head 11, and one end of a guy cable 33 is attached to rsaid anchoring plat-e. The 'other end of the cable-33 maybe attached to the opposite side of the truck platform, a building, post or other anchor to lhold the hoist attachment from tipping `While unusually' heavy loads are VVKbeing carried thereby. By the luse of the above Y described hoist attachment av load may be 'lifted from the ground by the blocl and n at either side Vor end thereof, and takes up very little room.
That I claim is 14A hoist attachment comprising,` an attaching bracket, a supplemental casingr carried bythe bracket and extending'both above and below the same, a main casing t-urnably mounted in 'the 'supplemental casing, a mast in the main '.casng, lsaid main casing and mast 'being Ysupportedon a bearing in the supplentientail casing, an arm carried by tthe mast,`and a block and 'tackle carried yby the 2. 'A hoist attachment fconfiprising' an attaching bracket, a supplemental casing car- 'ried V1by said bracket, a main casin'gturnably taching bracket, a supplemental casing car-O ried by said bracket, a main casing` turnably mounted in said supplemental cas1ng,a mast mounted in said main casing for rotation therex'vith, a bearing 1n the supplemental casing` turnably supporting the main casing and mast, an arm intermediately mounted on said mast, Aan anchor bracket on the main casing, means connecting yone end oit the arm to the anchor bracket, and a block and tackle carried bythe other end or' the arm.
4. A hoist attachment comprising an at tach'ing bracket, a supplemental casi'nzgf car*- ried by said bracket, a main 'casing turnably mountedin 'said's'upplemental casing, a mast mounted in said Vmain casing for rotation therewith, a bearing in the supplemental casing turnably supporting the .main lcasing and mast,'an arm intermediately pivoted to the mast, an anchor bracket on the main casing, adjustable means 'connecting vone end 'of the yarin to the ai'ichor bracket, vand a yblock and tackle carried by the other end of the arm.
