DAVID D. MCDONALD, F ONTARIO, CALIFORN'IA.
AUTOMOBILE COMFORT STATION.
Application filed June 15, 1923. Serial No. 645,556.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, DAVID D. MoDoNALD,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Ontario, in the county of San Bernardino and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Automobile Comfort Stations, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to portable accessories, and has for an object to provide a comfort station that may be readily folded into a compact form to be conveniently carried in a camp outfit and touring vehicle.
An object is to provide a comfort station that may be readily set up in a substantial manner and which is provided with a collapsible wall and frame.
Other objects and advantages will be made manifest in the following specification of an embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
igure 1 is a perspective of the erected station.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the station.
Fig. 3 is a detail edge view of the collapsed station.
Fig. 4 is a perspective of the same.
Fig- 5 is a detail of the tent joint.
The device consists of a seat 2, at the front edge of which is a leg-forming panel 3, hinged at 4, and when set up, the top edge of the panel forms a rest for the seat. The panel 3 folds over the top of the seat 2, the hinge leaves 4' being extended to permit this.
At one end of the seat are hinges 6, set back from the corner, and to these are attached an end leg-board 7 adapted to be set up as in Figure 1 with its top edge 7 bearing against the seat 2.
. Across the other end portion of the seat is a cleat 8, and on the inner corner of this is a set of hinges 9. On these are attached an end leg-board 10, which is shorter than the end board 7 an amount equal to the thickness of the cleat 8, against which it swings when upright.
When set up, as in Figure 2, the end boards 7--10 are braced by rods 12.
The box is designed to `be enclosed in a tent-like chamber, including a set of poles The tops of the poles are cross braced by links 18, having end eyes 19.
It will be seen that the apparatus is of low cost, compactable, and easily set up and knocked down, and can be set up at a remote point from the camp site when in the field.
It will thus be seen that the canvas hangs loose around the poles and is unattached thereto. With the overlapping front six hooks will secure the canvas in position and form a double curtain for the doorway. The links firmly hold the tent portion in rectangular shape at the top.
Wha-t is claimed is:
1. In a collapsible comfort station, adapted to receive a box, tent poles to be set up at the corners of the box, the poles having hollow tops, and a tent sheet attached to the pole tops so as to enclose the box, the sheet having hooks to enter the pole tops and hanging loose on the poles.
2. In a collapsible comfort station, adapted to receive a box, tent poles to be set up at the corners of the box, the poles having hollow tops, a tent sheet attached to the pole tops so as to enclose the box, the sheet having hooks to enter the pole tops and hanging loose on the poles, and removable eye-links arranged on the top of the poles to brace the same.
3. In a collapsible comfort station adapted to receive a box, tent poles to be set up at the corners of the box, the poles having hollow tops, a tent sheet loosely surrounding the poles, a series of hooks on the top of the sheet, said hooks being attached to the hollow tops of the poles, said sheet overlapping from one pole to the other at the front to form a double curtain, and removable eve-links arranged on the top of the poles to brace the same.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
