Be it known that I, HAROLD LESLIE AU GUsTUs BUNBURY, a. subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and a resident of East Malvern, a suburb of the city of Malvern, in the county of Bourke, State of Victoria, Commonwealth of Australia, whose post-office address is 126 Finch Street, East Malvern, a suburb of the said city of Malvern, in the county of Bourke, State of Victoria., Commonwealth of Australia, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Device for Connecting Hose Pipes to Water Taps, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to devices for detachably connecting hose pipes to water taps and its object is to provide an improved device of this nature which is of simple and inexpensive construction and will securely but detachably retain the hose to the tap without leakage as at present commonly occurs.
Referring to the drawings which form part of this specification Figure 1 is a side view of the improved device applied to a tap the device being shown partly in section and the tap being indicated by broken lines.
Figure 2 is a front view of the device.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view partly in section and shows one end of a hose placed around and securely gripped to the nipple of the device.
The invention includes a body member 2 having at its lower end a nipple 3 which is adapted to pass into the end of the hose 4 (Figure 3) and is surrounded by a. clip G which grips the exterior of the hose and presses the latter closely on to the nipple. The nipple is preferably externally serrated as shown. The clip 6 consists of a series of metal tongues 7 which radiate outwardly from the nipple and are provided with inturned or hooked outer ends 8 which may be pressed inwardly on to the hose to clinch the latter against the nipple as above mentioned and as clearly shown in Figure 3.
'Ihe upper end of the body member 2 is flared to form a cup-like receptacle S) which accon'in'iodates the outlet end of the tap 11, this receptacle being provided with an internal shoulder upon which rests a rubber .or like jointing ring 12 which is drawn tightly against the Outlet extremity of the tap to thereby form a noirleaking joint as hereinafter mentioned.
The aforesaid body member 2 also includes a pair of opposite arms 13 which upstand from the flared or cup-like upper end of the body member and are preferably formed integral with the latter. In the upper ends of these arms are opposite trunnion holes which accommodate trunnion pins 14 outstanding from a pivoted nut 16. Through this nut passes a clamping sorew17 the inner end 18 of which is adapted to engage the curved face or bib of the tap as seen in Figure 1 whilst its outer end is provided with a suit* able turning head 19.
Pivotally attached to the trunnion pins 14 is a U shaped yoke 21 which is adapted to pass over the handle 22 of the tap 11 and embrace the top or gland portion 23 of the latter.
In applying the device the hose 4 is placed around the nipple 8 and gripped thereto by the aforesaid radiating tongues 7 of the clip 6 as shown in Figure 3. The body membery 2 is then placed on the tap with the outlet end of the latter engaging the flexible jointing ring 12 within the receptacle 9 at the upper end of the nipple V3. By swinging the pivoted yoke 21 over the handle of the tap 11 and tightening the clamping screw 17 against the nose or bib thereof the flexible jointing ring 12 is drawn tightly against the outlet end of the bib so that a secure and watertight joint is formed.
To remove the device from the tap it is merely necessary to slacken the clamping screw 17 and swing the pivoted yoke 21 back over the tap handle 22 whereupon the device with the hose attached may be removed.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is An improved device of the nature indicated comprising in combination, a body member, an externally serrated nipple extending therefrom which is capable of being entered into one end o'f a hose, metal tongues radiating outwardly from the nipple, said tongues having inturned or hooked outer ends which may be pressed inwardly on to the exterior' of the hose, a rubber or like jointing ring accommodated by a cup shaped recess formed in the upper end of the body member, a pair of opposite arms inf npulaton of which clzuupng screw the )omtmg rmg- 1s drawn mto leak prooi e11- ,gagement with the outlet endot` the tap substantially as described.
