Description

April 28,1925. 1,535,905
J.IDI\SP1EVV CUTTING'AND WEIGHING MACHINE Filed Sept 22, 1924 as f ' which like reference numerals designate like through the medium Patented Apr. 28, 1925.
JACOB DASHEW, F BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
CUTTING AND WEIGHING MACHINE.
Application filed September 22, 1924. Serial No. 739,046.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB DASHEW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Cutting and \Veighing Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to in'iprovementsin cutting and weighing-machines, and has for its object to provide a simple and etficient machine for cutting other articles, and weighing the same as it is cut, thus obviating the necessity of first cutting with one machine and then carrying the cut or sliced portion to a separate scale to be weighed. A further object of my invention is to provide means for automatically stopping the machine from cutting or slicing when the desired amount has been cut.
The invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of the parts and,
combination of parts hereinafter more fully set forth in .the following specification and pointed out in detail in the appended claims. In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cutting orslicing machine having my invention applied thereto.
igure 2 is an enlarged diagrammatic view of the scale index showing the adjustable finger and the scale index finger and the wiring connected therewith.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, orming part of this'specification, and in parts throughout the several views thereof, 1 designates the base of the machine upon which is mounted a scale platform 2, which latter operates a suitable scalemechanism within the base 1 connected with the index finger 3 to indicate on the index 4 the weight .of the article as it falls on said platform 2 after being cut or sliced. The meat, or other article, to be cut or sliced, rests on the reciprocating carrier 5 and is held securely thereon by the prongs 6 on said carrier and the prongs 7 on the lower surface of the cross-head 8, which latter is adapted to be raised or lowered on the uprights 9 to clamp the meat or other article to be cut or sliced. A circular cutting blade 10 is mounted on one side of the machine and is revolved of the motor 27, and at the same time the carrier 5 is reciprocated or slicing meats, or
17 and the wire so that the meat or other article being cut will be carried against the revolving disk 10. The machine is provided with an adjustable index finger 12 which is pivoted at 13 and can be moved to indicate on the index 4 the weight which it is desired to cut, and is'provided with contact plates 14 connected to the wires 15 and 16 leadin to the switch 17 and magnet 18, respectivef'y. The wires 19 and 20 connect with a suitable current supply and the wire 19. connects with the switch 20 connects with the said switch and with the magnet 18. The wires 22 and 23 connect with the contact points 24 and the wires 25 and 26 connect with the motor 27 and with the contact points 28. The blades 21 of the switch are adapted to contact with the contact points 24 and the blades 29 are adapted to contact with the contact points 28.
he operation of the device is as follows:
The parts being in the position shown in Figure 2 of the drawing, and the adjustable index finger 12 being moved to indicate on the index 4 the number of pounds to be cut, the switch 17 is thrown so that the blades 29 come into contact with the contact points 28 thus establishing a circuit to the motor 27 and starting the machine to cut or slice. As the cut portions fall on the platform 2 the index finger 3 moves along the index 4 until it coincides able index finger 12 when the contact plates 30 come into contact with the plates 14 when a circuit will be established through the wires 15 and 16 through the switch 17 and wire 20 causing the magnet 18 to become energized when the armature of said magnet will draw the blades 21 of the switch down into contact with the contact plates 24 and disconnecting the blades 29 from the contact points 28 thus stopping the motor and causing the globe 31 at the top of the ma chine to light. Instead of the light at the top of the machine a bell, or other device, m y be employed to indicate the completion the cutting or slicing.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A cutting and weighing machine comprising a cutting blade, means for operating the cutting blade, a platform on which the material falls when out, an adjustable finger to' indicate the amount to be out, an index finger operated by said platform, and means with the adjusting contact plates thereon in circuit with the motor and ada ted to contact with the plates on the index finger, a switch to throw the machine in circuit with the motor, and a magnet to throw the switch to disconnect the circuit to the motor when the said two finger-s coincide.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
