UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MICHAEL J. REYNOLDS, OF WEST HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNO'R TO STROUSE ADLER & 00., OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, A FIRM COMPOSED OF ISAAC M. ULLMAN AND LOUIS M. ULLMAN, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, AND GEORGE MEYER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED CORSET AND BRASSIERE.
Application filed December 13, 1924. SeriaiN'o. 755,679.
Be it known that I, MrcHAEL J. RnYNoLos,
a citizen of the United States, residing at I West Haven, in the county of New Haven 5 and State "f Connecticut, hzwe invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Corsets and Brassieres: and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and 1 the characters of'reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, ]11
Fig. 1 a perspective. front view of a conibined corset and brassiere embodying my invention, and shown in the general position which it would assume on the figure of the wearer.
Fig. 2 a similar, rear view thereof.
Fig. 3 a reverse, plan view of the garment.
My invention relates to a combined corset and brassiere, the object being to produce a simple, convenient, comfortable and effect-ive garment of the character described.
With these ends in View, my invention consists in a combined, side-opening corset and brassiere, characterized by a pair of symmetrical, externally-applied, non-elastic, abdomen-supporting flaps applied to the front of the corset, over a centrally-arranged elastic gusset set thereinto, and lacing on the median line of the corset.
My invention further consists in a combined corset and brassiere having certain details of construction as will be hereinafter described.
In carrying out my invention, as herein shown, I employ a shaped corset-body 5'of non-elastic material, having the center of its front-section provided with an elastic gusset 6 extending from its lower edge upward to a point substantially about two-thirds of the vertical height of the front of the garment, though this point may vary without departing from my invention. Over the upper portion of the said gusset, I locate a pair of nonelastic, abdomen-supporting flaps 7, the outer edges of whichare secured to portions of the corset-body, while their inner edges are provided with hooks or eyelets 8 for the reception of lacings 9 by which the wearer supplements the constricting and supporting action of the'gusset 6.
As shown, the corset-body is provided with hooks 10 and eyes 11 respectively applied to one edge of its said front-section, and to the forward edge of one of its sidesections, so that the garment is hooked and unhooked to one side of its median front line.
Substantially, so much of the upper portion of the garment as extends abovethe upper edge of the said abdomen-supporting flaps 7 constitutes its brassiere feature and imposes no substantial constriction upon the body of the wearer, this brassiere portion, which is under no considerable amount of tension, being held up by Sl'lOlllClQF-StlitPS 12.
As shown, also, the lower portion of the garment is provided on" either side of the rear-section with elastic gussets 13.
I claim: 1
A combined, side-opening corset and brassicre having a shaped body-portion, an elastic gusset located in the center of the front thereof, and extending from the lower edge of the garment well above its center, a pair of non-elastic, abdominal-supporting flaps superimposed uponthe front of the corset and secured to it by their outer edges on either side ofthe said gusset overwhich they extend, the upper portion of the garment extending above the said flaps in position to serve'as a brassiere, means for lacing the said flaps to increase the supporting effect of the gusset, and means to one side of the gusset for securing the ends of the body-portion together. 1
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MICHAEL J. REYNOLDS. Witnesses:
MAURICE B. ULLMAN, RAYMOND W. BISSELL.
