Description
lJ. POZNANSKI.
Safety-Pins.
l 910,153,178, Patentdjuly 21,1874.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH POZNANSKI, OF NEIV YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO JOHN G. BETHUNE, OF VARBENTON, VA., AND SAID BETHUNE ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO BOSALIE POZNANSKI, OF NEW YORK CITY.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAFETY-PINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,178, dated July 2l, 1874; application filed May 13, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH PozNANsKI, of the city, county, and State of New York, have inventedcertainImprovementsinDiaper-Pins, of which the following is a specification:
A patent for an improved diaper-pin was granted to me January 20, 1874, being No. 146,552.
The objectief my present invention is to remedy certain defects in the pins manufactured under that patent, and also to cheapen the cost of manufacturing them.
Referring to the drawing, Figure I is a side View of a diaper-pin embodying my invention. Fig. II is an enlarged plan View through line x, Fig. I. Fig. III is a plan View of a piece of metal before being formed into the revolving cap. l
A is the spring; B, one of the arms, the end of which is pivoted at c to the center of the bottom of the cap I).
By simply riveting` the end at c in such manner as described in the above-mentioned patent, that the cap D will turn freely on the end of the arm B, the cap would soon, by wear and tear, become so loosely attached to the arm that the pin would be practically useless.
In order to overcome this difiiculty I have constructed a journal or bearing, s, for the arm B, into which the end of the arm is i11- troduced, and then riveted at c, as before, to the cap D.
In my Patent No. 146,552, as above stated, granted to me January 20, 1874, a guard, g, is placed separately inside the cap D, to which it is soldered, or otherwise secured.
By cutting a piece of metal sheeting, T, of the form shown in Fig. III, and bending it into the shape of the cap shown in Figs. I and II, the separate guard g is dispensed with, as the metal bent into the journal s forms a combined guard and journal in itself.
Although this class of safety-pins are used on diapers, I do not Wish to confine myself` to such limited use, as they are equally adaptable to all uses, and for all purposes, Where a strong and safe fastening is needed.
Having thus described my invention, I de sire to claim- In a diaper or safety pin, the combination, with the arms B and E, spring A, and recessed and pivoted thimble or cap D, of the journal-guard S, formed from the metal blank T, substantially as and for the purpose described.
JOS. POZNANSKI.
