BAG FASTENER.

Application filed January 29, 1924. Serial No. 689,274.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FLOYD W. VVALKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cobleskill, in the county of Schoharie' and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Bag Fastener, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in bag fastening devices that may be con structed integral with the bag or formed as a separable unit. 7

An important object of the invention is to provide a securing device which may be placed about the neck of a bag and prevent displacement of the contents therein.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be secured to a bag quickly and efficiently.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple, yet durable. and efficient for the purpose intended.

Other objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the device attached to a bag,

Figure 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the device, and

Figure 3 is a side elevation of the device in open position.

In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration, is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a length of wire sufficient to encircle the neck of the bag upon which the device is to be employed, the diameter of the wire also varying with the application of the device. It is obvious that comparatively small and resilient wires may be used for securing small bags constructed of paper and the like, while it is necessary to construct devices to be secured upon cement sacks or the like, of heavier materiah The single strand of wire 5 has an ex tension 6 which is comparatively straight in open position, one extremity being doubled about itself and bent to form a semi-circular hook 7, the extremity of the said hook being opened to form a retaining loopi7. The returning strand of Wire is extended downwardly to form a holdingear 8, the extremity of the wire then being wound about the straight length 6 to prevent displacement thereof. I I

In use, the upper portion ofthe bag is gathered together to form a. neck as denoted by the numeral 10 and the fastening device held in position about the neck by means of the loop 8 which permits the thumb of the user to retain the device againstthe neck while retaining the folds of the bag securely in position. The free hand of the user may then grasp the single extension 6 and wind same about the neck of the bag the extremity being wound about the loop I as indicated by the numeral 11, thereby securing the bag and preventing removal of its contents.

It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as the preferred example of the same, and that various changes as to the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.

Having thus described my invention, I

2. A bag fastener comprising a strand of wire adapted to enclose the neck portion of a bag or the like, one extremity of the wire being doubled about itself and bent to form a semi-circular hook, an extension loop formed at the extremity of the said hook, a depending ear formed on the returning strand of wire, the extremity thereof being twisted about the neck enclosing strand to prevent separation thereof.
